Shot this skimpy budget Lexus "web" spot last month and am very pleased with what we managed to achieve. I always maintain that no matter the budget, we have to try to deliver as good of work as we can... So instead of rows and rows of 18Ks outside windows, I had to work around the available ambient light of the location (and short winter days to boot!) and black out hundreds of yards of other windows to shape the light that way.

A dollup of smoke and viola! Last time I did one of these low budget Lexus spots, they turned around and made it a super bowl ad... Just missed that timing wise, but here ya go!

Chris, i think you're being modest. The spot looks great.

What do you consider low budget?.... :)

$75K for that spot is just crazy talk... Should have been 10 times that budget, but that's what we did it for... That's what I'm sayin...

Great work fam! Cost doesn't matter because it's more about the end result which you successfully created a great spot. I could see you getting compensated more, but the quality is there. What kind of rig did you use to get the driving shots? Was it a car mounted jib? Also was this a one or two camera shoot?

We used an Edge Systems Arm, which is yet another company providing "Russian Arm" type vehicles. I had one camera for the Edge Arm, and another camera for a dolly. Only 1 camera assistant managing all of this and no VTR for the job... fellow Reduser here Jeff McCoy. Did a great job juggling all the gear and hopping bewteen cameras.

We only had 3 basketball hoops so we spent 1/3 of the morning having the art department moving the launchers and hoops around for that wide shot (a locked off plate) with all "60" hoops in shot. We made a black out tent for the opening tight car shots while we did this...

What OLPF? LLO?

Nick, was mostly Skin-Tone Highlight as I had enough light most of the day in there, but after the light dropped, I switched to LLO...

Yea, contemplating doing a whole long-term project exclusively on it actually.

Great spot!

Looks awesome Chris. Do you mind sharing a little breakdown on the lighting for the full car beauty shot at the end?

That looks terrific, Christopher. J.J. Abrams would love the anamorphic lens flares!

Thanks for the recognition Chris, and for the work. It was a fun shoot and my pleasure to be a part of it.
I wish the rest of you could witness this man at work- he's 10 steps ahead of everyone else on set, literally. He will call you out if you aren't 100% on your game at all times (and yes that includes me). It's fascinating, terrifying and educational all at the same time. The quality of work really proves his dedication to the craft and he's very generous about sharing his knowledge. If I wasn't committed to a few projects this month I'd be enrolling in one of his classes at GCI... do it!

I like it Chris. That last shot, just floated a big Chimera up there?

Chimera, no... And certainly no budget for a Fisher light... Went old school with a 20' x 30' Ultra Bounce. Still does the trick.

As always Chris your talent and creativity really shine here......

Thanks Peter! Owe you a call

Thanks Jeff, and great job on the spot! I know I'm a compete nut, but what can I do?
