This is true to a point. A DP should know all about the effects of pushing stocks, bleach bypass, cross processing, shooting reversal, flashing and more. Thats a lot more complicated than reading a histogram, and exposing in low light, and they should shoot tests if they are not sure. It's our job to understand the technology.

Of coarse it is your job to know where the technology is heading and what are the options... BUT its not a DoP RESPONSIBILITY to know all the existing workflows for all the existing cameras (because RED its not the center of the universe...) and I stress again the word RESPONSIBILITY of the data flow, the color management, and the technical solutions that have to be taken in the narrow area of the DI...
DoP has to stick with his art... or else, he will became an engineer... technology is not like film use to be, it changes every two to three years, DoP's, at the end, would be tech freaks... I don't say that they must not follow the technology and know everything about it, but is one thing the general knowledge as a DoP and another to be a THE responsible engineer...
