Can anyone tell me how/what to buy/hire - to mount an epic/scarlet 90 degrees to a standard tripod - for portrait pix.

Doesn't need to be controlled, can be locked off.

Many thanks.

Or you can buy a "Candreva Plate" - it's a stock FilmTools item, designed and manufactured by a venerable New York AC and good friend of mine. It allows you to put the camera on the tripod sideways, so tilt is now dutch. Just "tilt" 90 degrees and you are there.

He also made for me a custom 90 degree plate out of aluminum that allows the camera to be mounted portrait, but in a normal attitude on the head so you can operate. I have a client for whom I shoot runway shows, and they always request vertical.
I have told Jim that this would be a great new product, so I think ultimately he will manufacture them, but at the moment it's a one-off (hence unfinished and un-anodized)
Here it is in action at a recent event. Epic in portrait mode. Sorry for the lousy iPhone photo...
Cheers,
Harry

The old black miller fluid heads for 100mm bowls, from recall will tilt 90 degrees. The base single stud fastener is from memory the same diameter as the camera mount stud so it will go straight on top of another identical head and allow a 90degree dutch. If you get two, make sure they are the model with the disk-style tilt lockoff on the side. The older versions with internal thumbscrew locking will creep. This is a compromise quickfix arrangement. There is a lot of outboard mass so take care the tripod itself does not go over. You may need to add a pin to the base to stop the thing from unscrewing itself.

If you look closely on this image you'll notice I have a quick release plate mounted on the side arms as Danai suggested.

There are probably a lot of old VR tripod heads around (I have one) that hold your DSLR in vertical mode and even allow panning. I think that would work fine for Epic/Scarlet.

Just a thought.

FYI..Viewfactor Sidearms have been designed for this since day one. We have a lens center-line mark on the arms for such shots

I like the side mount option that @phil has. Curious if your still using those ribs for the Weapon? If not, what do you recommend for two rip/mount options on the Red Weapon?
