  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

9" LCD shipping today....

now the problem is that I have the girls want to see play back all the time, especially when shot in slow motion... ;)
LOL, i remember the same thing from one of my first tests, girls like to see themselves in slow motion. :)

BTW, what do you guys think, is the 9" usable on a shoulder-rig, especially the gunner?

Now if RED could just get the Retina panel that Apple uses for the iPad 3 and make it into a 10" monitor with true 1080+ resolution, 99% of rec 709 gamut, etc...

Yes that's right, I've only had the 9" for a few days and I'm already imagining something better. I guess some people are never satisfied :-0 hehe

Seriously though it is a great monitor, and I concur with Jarred's note about going back to the 5" being a rude awakening once you spend a little time with the 9" - yes, we can add "that's what she said" to pretty much every other comment on this thread ,-)

Cheers - #19

Hehehe, i wondered when the first people come up with wishes for a next monitor. Yeah, adjusting to better/bigger imaging-devices is a really fast process. Retina would be kick-ass, but i guess RED is already working on a screen with 4k-resolution for next year. ;) Admitted there is "some" wishful thinking included...

BTW, additional to my question about the shoulder-rig i would like to hear your thoughts about using the 9" on a "small" handheld-setup. Is it still usable? ;)

Didn't use the gunner, but used it on a prototype shoulder rig and actually the bigger screen is much better then the smaller ones.

Will there be an updated pelican case that will fit the 9"

Bit me to it Michael,

fact is I'm also already talking to a local company here in Italy to make custom super compact cases for all pieces.

But for sure you don't want to take this beast of a GREAT LCD on a bag by it self, at list I wan't do that, and prefer to log along the great Carton case provided by RED for the time being, till a case is made for it.

The 9" LCD is really a pitiful name for this thing, we're calling it "The Big Nasty". If you're thinking about ordering one, just do it…you'll love it.

Thanks Ketch, sounds great.

BTW, that prototype, was it a new one from RED? ;) Guess you shouldn't answer that question, hehe.

Got "Number Nine" today. It is a great addition to the kit. Looks like focusing on the go will be much easier with this. I will still use the 5" and the EVF when needed, but this looks to be the go-to finder/monitor from now on. Damn, have to get one for my other Epic now...

If you are using a shoulder mounted setup will the 9" not be too heavy? It looks fantastic, just a bit concerned about extra weight.

Best,
Andreas

Weight is not the issue, but size might be.

Is anybody else having an issue with the touch screen? On mine if you touch too high, all the way across the top of the screen, it goes into playback. Not sure if this is a glitch or a firmware issue.

What version of firmware are you running - we'll take a look.

Edit:
We've confirmed that this is a firmware bug and it will be addressed in a future release.

I have had this along with freeze frames if you touch too high, you have to retouch to unfreeze

What do you mean by "freeze frames"?

I mean I can freeze the image on screen with the right touch. Camera doesnt shut down and I can unfreeze it with a similar touch.

ProIO attached with 9" on proIO and 5" on camera body with monitor hooked to pro IO latest beta build
