To hold a good ND filter (or two) which you will definitely need if you want to shoot out in full sun without having to stop down your lens and loose DOF. If you rely on threaded filters, you will need to have a set for each thread size of your lenses and that can be a pain to swap out continually, whereas with a mattebox, the filters slide in and out, and you just have 1 size of filters to have to purchase.
When you buy the lens, just ask them to throw in a free hood, that's what I'd do....A well used mattebox can do more to improve the image quality than anything else. A good lens without a matte box to keep stray light out will give worse results than a fair lens with a well adjusted matte box.
