  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock Micro Mattebox RED Edition Review

Hi All

Lens connector diameter is 140mm

You can remove the lens connector (remove the screws) to get a larger 15mm opening. Larger lenses would abut the rear filter stage.
*Correction on my measurements, 140 it is.

If you remove the lens connector then there's no bellows system to cover the filter stages though.....

Are you making a larger lns connector also?

Alex thanks for updating the measurement. We don't have any current plans to create a new larger diameter hole. 140mm is pretty dang big, but if there is demand, of course we always want to hear what folks want.

If you remove the lens connector, you are correct there is no bellows system, but you can abutt the lens to the matte box. It's not a perfect solution, but can fit the bill in a pinch.

I hear ya Brian, 140 is a nice size, but again, if you just opened that sucker up to 162 to fit an Optimo 24-290's front end (arguably the most used long zoom on the market), your 5x and 6x stages would have a real purpose.

Then we'd have a mattebox with all the bells & whistles minus the enormous size of an MB14. Something to think about.

I'm personally really looking forward to having those 6x stages because then all my filters will truly be multi-purpose. In other words, I won't have to buy or rent specialty sizes when shooting with the Optimo or a 14mm, my 6x's would cover all bases.

Brian,

What are the dimensions of the actual mattebox? I'm getting some cases ordered...

Thanks.

I would definitely like a back size that would fit a standard arri or chrosziel bellows with a 138mm round filter slot.

I for one have a cooke 18-100 and would need the larger opening.
can I buy an extra connector to open up?

Would it be possible to use the bellows adapters from a MB20 ?

Yep it fits.

Ross - I recall posting those dimensions here somewhere previously. What specific dimensions are you looking for?

Also, just so everyone knows, the microMatteBox ships in fitted foam, which with a little shaving, you can drop right into a pelican and you are good to go. If you prefer to forego the shaving and don't want to bother with the pelican, we have a complete solution already ready to go.

Finner actually has the redrock microMatteBox foam & case. Don't know if he's around to comment.

Hi

I missed this one. Reduser is so full that even those of us that are here a bunch still miss a ton of things. Hence why www.finnerknowsbest.com was created, so that there was a place that some product information would be a little easier to access. In fact a whole ton of various product video's are soon going to be up on finner knows best (hopefully next week, damn Canadian Customs held up some of the products shipping.) Look for all the new review/tutorial video's which will be shot with the RedRock M2 system and a set of ZF zeiss lenses, very sweet glass!

Now to comment on the redrock MB case. It is a very nice large pelican that has been well thought out and gives you room to store other accesories along with all your matte box goodies. The Red Rock MB blows any sub $3,000 matte box out of the water, quite a feat for a $700 matte box. For people on a budget the Red Rock matte box is the best place to save some big $ but not have to really sacrifice any quality and features.

Like I mentioned their will be a bunch of finnerknowsbest video's on this and other products soon.

cheers

Hi Ketch

That's always been possible - you just select the knob color when you order. If you forgot that step (or maybe just skipped over the default) then you can just drop a line to sales@redrockmicro.com with your order number and let them know you want black instead of red knobs. But hurry! Shipping time is coming up quickly

Thanks

Brian

Hey Brian,

beside the fact that a huge congrats are in order for the achievement, I like to know if it is still possible to get my RR RED Edition MB Bundle with the Black Knobs, instead of the red ones.

Thanks.

ciao

Ketch.

I e-mailed Brian and switched mine from red to black. They took care of it quickly.

You will get a blue set too.

One more thing - here is a picture of the fitted foam case in which the microMatteBox ships. This is the 15mm version shown. The 19mm version is larger, has additional spaces for 19mm and 15mm arm, and two large-ish slots for other accessories.

Brian that's awesome - Does this case come with all the orders or is it additional? I didn't see or here about this when I placed my order at NAB.

By the way, how do shipments look? I know you've had a few delays, I placed my order 60 days ago.

Hi Richard

The case is additional. you can find the 19mm version here:

http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.472981/it.A/id.429/.f

and the 15mm version here:

http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.472981/it.A/id.428/.f

Just to be clear, the 19mm version is basically the deluxe version, and includes space for both 15mm and 19mm rod arms and some extra cavities to store gear. The 15mm version has room for just the 15mm rod arm and is slightly smaller.

We also sent out an update on the shipping status, which you can find here on the current dates:
