  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock Micro Mattebox RED Edition Review

We've been using the RR mattebox(pre-production unit) for past 3 weeks on the feature film "The war is over" in all kinds of remote locations in Macedonia and I have to report that it's been a great experience so far. It's been put in the test in most rough situations and it's taking all kind of "abuse" with an ease.
I'll have a full report and productions stills posted soon.

Also, just so everyone knows, the microMatteBox ships in fitted foam, which with a little shaving, you can drop right into a pelican and you are good to go. If you prefer to forego the shaving and don't want to bother with the pelican, we have a complete solution already ready to go.

Finner actually has the redrock microMatteBox foam & case. Don't know if he's around to comment.

I meant the outer dimensions of the main box - so that I can figure out what case I need to buy (once I decide what other stuff I'll need to put in with it!).
What size is that Peli that you sell for example...?

I ordered my matt box just after NAB. Does that make me a reservation holder or a non reservation holder?

Just to be clear, the 19mm version is basically the deluxe version, and includes space for both 15mm and 19mm rod arms and some extra cavities to store gear. The 15mm version has room for just the 15mm rod arm and is slightly smaller.

Hi Brian,

The photographs in the two linked webpages appear to be the same for 15mm & 19mm - and the same as you have in post #36. Which suggests you only have the 15mm case shown. Any chance you could show us the case for the 19mm?

Brian, you all really need to go ahead and start having the 5.65x5.65 trays manufactured. I just priced the Arri tray--which is the only one that I understand will fit) and it was $300 for JUST THE TRAY! It really can't be that hard to expand the 4.65x5.65 design and have them made. I really think this is a must ASAP!

Can anyone confirm what is the largest filter I could use in this mattebox? I know it can do 5.65 x 5.65, but can it also do 6 x 6?

Will an Arri or Chrosziel tray fit in this mattebox with either of these two sizes?

Need to order some filters, but want to go as large as I can before I proceed.

Ross - I will have to get back to you on the dimensions as we are at cinegear yesterday and today. I believe the 15mm rod version of the case is a 1550 and the 19mm (which is more room for two arms plus some extra cavities for accessories) is a 1600. We sell both cases with fitted foam, very nice!

the largest size filter the matte box supports is 5.65x5.65", or 5.65x6" if placed on its side (like other comparable matte boxes)

We do want to get larger trays and 15mm studio going as our next phase.

Brian was great seen you today at Cinegear, hand love to see what you were up to, also the pelican case you made for the RR MB is absolutely perfect, loved and my MB must ship with it! Plus 9 more!

Edit: Case ordered, and any one getting the RR MB should get one as well, perfect fitting and great design on the cutting of the foam.

Finally I got Hyson's X Matte Box and I'm Happy
Now I'm waiting for RR Remote FF.
