  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

7" Portable 720p DVI monitor for $737.50

In principle, it should, just like the Carrion does. What remains is for someone to test it firsthand to see if all the info is passed through.

Tico...

Has someone tested the Carrion? Cost? V-Lock?

Still only 800x600 which stinks. Are you using this as a monitor for a director/producer?

Matthew

Nah, I just need something for framing till my EVF arrives or the Red 7" LCD ships. I will probably never even depend upon the EVF for exposure or color. I plan on using a light meter or DSLR for getting the right exposure and counting on Red Raw to give me unlimited grading flexibility. I do however, shoot every scene with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi as I have come to trust it to help me remember what the scene looked like in terms of accurate color.

Shooter, I personally spoke with Luis at NAB and he assured me that the Carrion had been tested successfully on the RED and found to work, albeit via the LCD's DVI in port (off the RED's HDMI out port, using a HDMI to DVI cable). Finner was there also checking it out and I recall him being impressed by its size, build quality, flexible feature set and resolution. Back then, there was still no word on HD SDI support off the RED. But, from what I saw (it was hooked up to an HVX, demoing Brian's RedRockMicro gear), the Carrion is 8.4" and has 1024x768 resolution, so it ought to be a great candidate for the RED any which way. And yes, it can be fitted with the battery mount of your choice. I saw a V-lock being used there that day.

I am waiting on my Carrion B that I ordered from Luis. I hope to have it this week or next and will be doing a full video and written review of it on www.finnerknowsbest.com as soon as I get it.

I checked the carrion out at NAB and it is incredible. The resolution and veiwing angle of it are as good as $4,000+ monitors on the market. It was an easy decision to pick it up.

Hey Guys, did I missed something?
where I can find this Carrion?

Finner, is the carrion equivalent to the red 7"? Could you tell us the pros and cons/comparison of the carrion vs the red 7? How long a wait for a carrion?

thanks!

Pro's of what I have seen between the red monitors and the carrion

RED monitors:
PRO'S
-very light
-buttons that work through menu of red
-lets you see reds user info

Carrion monitors:
PRO'S
-offers easily one of the best viewing angles I have seen (From side to side or up and down)
-Has standard inputs and outputs and resolution settings making the monitor flexible to work with many camera systems.
-only monitor I know of other then the red that allows you to see the red user info (hdmi-dvi)
-very high resolution
-really robust case and screen does not scratch easy.
-flipable image
-very good daylight viewing
-at 3.2lbs not the lightest but still light enough for steadycam work.

Overall for me the carrion fit my needs better. The red monitor is good but the flexibility of the carrion won me over.

I've mentioned this before on other threads, but for those who may have missed it.....

Luis tested his Excellent Carrion monitor on my RED....

It rocks, and Luis is a great guy to do business with.

Highly recommended.

I was thinking to buy the Red PRO LCD, but since I need to start shooting a project by mid/late September, I don't think I might be able to get it.

This seems a great option. Sorry for my ignorant question, but what is a Dtap and where can I buy it? I am planning to use a Birger Mount, and that uses one of the LEMOs from the back of the camera, and also an Origo Start/Stop, which I think it uses another one.

Would I still be able to power the monitor from the camera?

Thanks,

IC

The D-tap is the 2 hole port on the side of your battery plate. It says "MAX 70W" just above it.

Thanks Larry for your quick response. But how about the cable that would connect the D-tab to the monitor?. Does it come with the monitor or the Red Battery Plate or a Battery Belt Clip?.

Thanks,

IC
