Is there a technical reason why I can film 16:9 in 6K and 4K, but 5K only has 17:9?

Considering the myriad of 6K formats I don't see why it would be a problem.
3K 17:9 & 16:9 and 3.5K for Super16 (a very under appreciated format) would be very nice.
Some additional 3K frame rates would really be great.

I’d love 5k @ 16:9. Frame rate needs mean I’ve shot several 16:9 projects with 17:9 sections that must be cropped later, and it can lead to a lot of confusion/make it look like I messed up!

I’ll repeat my related interface wish here: it would be great if the project settings “roller” were broken up into two discrete sections, so you don’t have to scroll through the entire list of irrelevant options—select your resolution on one half of the roller, and your aspect ratio on the other half. Like halves of a digital clock. Would also cut down a bit on potential for errors.

That doesn't really answer the question. But to address your point, I want to shoot slower motion than 6K allows, 5K is more than adequate for most things I do, and I don't want to mess around with always having to reformat for a 16:9 project. So, why doesn't 5K get the 16:9 love that 6K and 4K get?

Hey Kevin,
You only mentioned aspect ratio in your original post.
I would imagine a 5K 16:9 mode can be added like the other formats but can’t say with any authority.

I further mentioned a desire for more frame rates included with 3K modes that might go slower than what we get with 4K.

At the end I’m not an engineer with RED and can’t answer any of this definitively.

at least a thread exists now that states these requests.
