I am absolutely certain that there will be no ProRes. This is the best chance for RED to show the world their fantastic Redcode RAW.

Maybe for prores support black shades luts and higher speed 4k? Scarlet needs a path to upgrade the only question is if raven is it or a cheaper line instead?

Fyi an Alexa mini is 70k ready to shoot when you add all the accessories up, weapon is that market segment not raven

not in the drone department, it isn't. Alexa Mini was released to compete with the EPIC, which was taking away drone/gimbal business. A ton of shows were shooting Alexa with EPIC filling in. Mini was designed in response to the popularity of these new developments, so that Arri users could stay in an Arri workflow throughout. Arri is only incidentally appealing to indie filmmakers, because it lowered their price point with the Mini. RAVEN can be something similar - designed as its even lighter, faster drone/gimbal cam which serves as a RED gateway drug to its indie base. Competition within a given market segment isn't always based on price - its about feature set and usefulness.

Weapon will definitely kick ass over the Alexa Mini, especially once you add an OMOD - imagine loading up your camera with a built-in FIZ, holy cow. That will be a deal killer right there. You lose a ton of gack and gain a lot over just the wireless follow focus and wireless transmitter, which is what most rigs support right now in terms of adding weight and requiring arm strength.

But I think the overall camera trend is still towards smaller, lighter - if Mini is Alexa's version of smaller, lighter - then RAVEN will be smaller, lighter, and cheaper. If a production is already shooting the bigger Arri, then of course they will most likely use the Mini to match - but in almost every other situation - the RAVEN will give you just as much, if not more, for less weight. That is a HUGE competitive edge.

No matter how you slice it, RED is getting jiggy with their camera line. With Weapon at the top and RAVEN as a specialty camera which can multi-purpose...RED is covering a ton of demand for a broad-based market.

Well mini is 45k with no accessories at abelcine and when I looked into purchasing one to sublease it was 70k total. Yes you can kit it cheaper probably but not in my business model unfortunately since kitting isn't my choice but the various facilities I work with, abelcine is the only non grey market us option for purchase I know buying in Munich direct u could save ten grand but again in my business model this is not an option. I think raven will be much cheaper and Netflix approved

Any guesses if "Raven" will have swappable OLPF system?

if a Raven costs less than 10k, and the base weapon package costs about 40k you can get both cameras for less than the price of the mini

Do we know for certain the mounts fixed? Idk how the heck it saves them money vs the mounts we all bought already? If it's fixed and won't do 5k I suspect it's a lower priced line than a scarlet upgrade path? It will be interesting to see what the final specs and price is but the rental houses may not even rent them out of it's super cheap cuz many refuse to stock Scarlets already is the unfortunate truth

Why wouldn't they include prores? I doubt that changes the cost as its just a firmware thing.

Apple charges for it, which seems counter productive from a cost standpoint and considering the spec discrepancy between MG and CF weapon this cheaper model would have to crippled in many ways to reach a black magic or scarlet level pricing I suspect

Just look at the images in the first post. It's safe to say this mount is different from what we know. And there are no screws. It looks like the front is just one piece with an integrated mount (which itself looks different from the EF-mounts we know).

Lower line than Scarlet, yes and no. It highly depends on your perspective. If maximum resolution and probably sensor-size are the most important things, then yes, it looks like it's going to be lower than Scarlet Dragon. But on the other hand Raven is doing 4k @ 120fps, has a WEAPON-style body, is lighter, maybe consumes less power, has WiFi and i'm sure some other surprises too.

It's a different taste of RED. Where exactly it's place is in RED's product-line can't be answered right now. We have to wait for the next teases and/or friday.

Damn that will be a long week. :)

4K locked
120fps
aeriel drone / indie cam
dragon sensor and image quality
mft mount and image circle
wifi
mag weapon body / light weight

whar would you be willing to pay for the brain?

i am really thinking this will be $5-6k and a ursa mini / fs5 competitor.

What do you think?

Higher priced than URSA Mini and FS5.

I think a realistic target is <10k for a barebones ready-to-shoot package with the new 4.7"-Touch-LCD a REDVOLT XL module... So yeah, $5-6k for brain with SSD-module sounds possible.

Oh, and don't forget that new Sidehandle in that bundle. :P

nailed it

6000 US dollars with side SSD module

I think those new m4/3 anamorpic glass on a sensor that size could be a killer combo? It's sure going to be a long week of excitement I wish they would leak a little more? I think a cheap red could be a cool niche I'd buy that over anything any other brand would release at that price point but gotta get that weapon too so hows a fellow to prioritize is the real question? Hmm

M43 crop on Dragon is at like 3.4K according to Phil's diagram.
