#4K4ALL

Untapped? I think everyone is being served 4k now, if they want it.

That's my point. IMO, the only potentially underserved niche is people who want to shoot RED but can't throw down for a Weapon. How much can you ask for a shooting kit (brain, 2 mags, power, VF) before you price out that middle tier? $15K? $20K?

Cheers - #19

This is sort of what I meant about this becoming frustrating, Ben. You're talking about the camera you want, whereas most of us are discussing what RED might release.

The discussion I wanted was more of an intellectual challenge of fitting a new, cheaper RED camera into their eco system, making considerable cuts from existing products and try to make sense out of the teasing campaign, hitting a price of $7-8000 ready to shoot including normal camera accessories.

With the latest leaks, including WiFi, Redcode and high frame rates I think Jarred was too generous with #4K4ALL. The obvious interpretation is "for all people", but the product we're seeing revealed here bit by bit can hardly come in at that price point.

Now that we know we are talking about different things, I see no point in taking it further.

There is nothing I have suggested which is unrealistic about what a forthcoming 'lower end than Weapon' Red camera could be. If it doesn't fit into what you want (either from Red or from my posts) that's up to you. But it's the tier of camera that Scarlet occupied for a short term and that Raven could very successfully occupy in the future. You arbitrarily decided it should be $7,000-8,000. I don't think that is realistic.

If you want to get caught up in a silly advertising slogan that's down to you as well. It's just a bit of marketing. Stop trying to read things into it that aren't there.

Everybody else seems to be talking about what they can forsee realistically, and a market space it could occupy and thrive in. For me, that market is not the one served so well by the FS7/FS5/C100 et al, but rather the one served by the C300mk3, and what used to be the domain of the Scarlet-MX. I don't feel the Scarlet Dragon ever had quite the same purchase there.

New photo on Jarred's FB page :-)

Hmm wifi capable really starting to seem like its a camera for drones.

There are two ways this can pan out. My guess is that this is going to be a replacement for the Scarlet and I'm pretty sure we are looking at a $10K+ camera when all is said and done. I just don't see how they can keep the price down when the add on's cost so much. The only way it is under 10K is if they use the MX sensor or if the sensor is smaller, like M43. The 4K4ALL doesn't really make sense to me since cams like the GH4 are sub $1500. If all you want is 4K, there are a ton of options and I don't think this is what Red meant when they said 4K4All.

something tells me my Scarlet dragon just dropped in value by 4k

Good thing then that I've made more than that with mine this week... and every week. It's a tool (like a hammer) that you use to make money with, not from. Looking at it as an investment that you will gain (other than from the work it produces) on a physical resale just doesn't make sense to me.

Don't know much, but I do know if it shoots 4k/120fps, it isn't going to be cheap. There are only a handful of cameras on the market with this kind of horsepower and none of them are below $30k.

Uh... Blackmagic Ursa (the big one) - 4K, 120fps for $3995.
And coming soon: 4.6K 120fps for $6995.

Sony FS700 does a 120fps 4K RAW burst too - and that's $4000 as well. OK, well add on an Odyssey 7q+ :)

have you really made more than 4k a week with your scarlet dragon?

Considering the ROI on a $15-$20k purchase doesn't make sense to you?

As I alluded to earlier in the thread, buying a Red to sit there and stroke it and be super happy you own a Red is one thing, but buying one with no business plan other than hoping people suddenly flock to hire you when they didn't before just because you have a Red is a surefire way of losing money.

I didn't make the money I should have with my Scarlet-MX. My FS7 paid for itself within 2 months. If I buy a Raven, it will be because there is the work and client base ready for it from day 1.

I can totally believe the right person with the right client base is pulling in that amount of work in a week. But it takes a lot more than an impressive equipment list to get there.

This is obvious to anyone with enough cash to buy a RED. The people that CAN purchase one without thinking twice don't care either way. You're preaching to the choir Ben.

I honestly think the 4K4ALL is just a marketing tool to catch peoples attention and it did. Curious to see if its true or just to get people hyped up and cancel ursa mini 4.6k which probably happened as well so im up in line lol.

Yes - and at the end of the month I launch a channel on two large American cable companies to just over 24 million homes. All content shot on Scarlet / Scarlet Dragons.
