#4K4ALL

Huuuuuum.... Lots of speculation since this week-end...
An official announcement would be more than welcome... Based on what I read I feel like some people will be overwhelmed and some other really disappointed but so far, except the R3D team, nobody knows the truth about #‎RAVEN4K120fps‬ and #4K4ALL.
R3D is really good at producing excellent cameras and equipments but also masters the art of creating buzz around its products.

Agree with all of that. This will (hopefully) be a camera to compete on smaller and lower budget features. Not a thing for no budget youtube videos.
There are lot of people making millions and millions doing youtube videos.

on a per Wh basis V-Mounts are exponentially cheaper, more ubiquitous across the world (resulting in many people already having them) and a lot easier to get in a pinch when your bag has been lost after a flight.

A built-in V-Mount plate would be absolutely fine for me but if not, an aftermarket one would be cool too, and not expensive.

But what battery would RED put in the box? Their brick is more expensive than the Redvolt.

Look, this is not what I expect RED to launch at all. But please stick to the hypothesis or line of thought. If not, discussing it becomes kind of pointless—not to say frustrating.

I don't buy into your hypothesis at all and clearly want different things from this camera if I am to buy it. As long as there is a main power adapter in the box Id say batteries were down to the buyer and how they want to use the camera. Redvolts great for gimbal etc. V mounts for others...

Probably going to be 4k only. Smaller sensor = lower cost. It might not even be a an upgrade for Scarlet owners, but a completely new cost effective camera.

If Raven is 120fps at 4K, then my hunch is no - it won't be as cost effective as people imagine. 120fps is EPIC LEVEL horsepower. Also suggest both 6K and 5K are very doable (120fps at 4K corresponds to 96 at 5K, and I believe 80fps at 6K?).

So RAVEN certainly has the horsepower already that's BEYOND Scarlet, and may be priced accordingly.

However the FIXED options (fixed mount, perhaps fixed side panel), may turn RAVEN into an INDIE EPIC (ie an INDIE WEAPON), which many people have been clamoring for.

However, an INDIE WEAPON is by no means an affordable URSA or A7. I think people may need to readjust their expectations a bit.

A full shooting RAVEN may still be $20K. Brain may be $15K.

Nevertheless, an INDIE WEAPON (with EPIC LIKE SPECS) would still be very disruptive.

RED looks like they are going back to their roots of providing a FULL CINEMA CAMERA that the indie market can absorb and embrace (ala RED ONE). Don't forget - Weapon was aimed as much for RENTAL and STUDIOS; RAVEN may see RED returning to their INDIE origins (and price point) - which I personally think is GREAT.

This is just my humble reading of the situation...

Every other sub $10K camera comes with at least 1 battery. Many years ago my 7D came with a single battery and then I bought 5 more. I'll do the same thing here. At least give me an opening and I WILL spend more down the line, if not up front. Sony is packing 2 batteries with their A7 line because their batteries are small and don't last long at all. Kinda the same with Redvolts. They don't last very long at all. But at least they last long enough to get some footage with them. Just make it scaleable so I can attach a V-Mount plate to it and get a few Red Bricks later.

This is the dilemma I'm in if the camera is fixed lens mount. (Also does that mean no swappable OLPFs?) I'm just now looking into Renting my equipment out, and I have a Nikon mount. Not as many people have Nikon, and would prefer to Rent a Canon mount camera, so a swappable mount is great.

But for someone like me, who would like to use Nikon for myself, and rent out Canon for other people to use, do I just get the EF mount, and use a EF->Nikon converter? (I only use manual lenses anyway), and would that not be a big deal, or is that dumb to do? (flange distance, focus issues?) I don't know about converting EF to Nikon.

Well said. I think there will be some disappointed people out there when they realize Raven is the next step up from Scarlet-Dragon instead of the entry option but it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

With the greatest respect your 7D is not a Red 4k Raw Digital Cinema camera and the inclusion of a battery with it doesn't mean anything in terms of how other people should behave. Does the Alexa Mini or Amira come with batteries in the box?

You'll need to buy media before you shoot as well, so why not batteries, to free people up to just pay for the stuff they need? Having owned many redvolts in the past they were a complete waste of time/money and I was glad to sell them and never see them again, and I look forward to not having to pay for something I will never ever use. Happy to just order a V-Mount plate the same day I order a camera (if it suits my productions)

Every RED I've ever seen can be powered by V-Mount or Anton, etc.

RAVEN will be no different...

... Another speculation:

RAVEN record R3D in 4K @ 120fps (like EPIC DRAGON in 4K )
... Maybe RAVEN will record 6K @ 85fps (like EPIC D. )

I dream My EPIC in a new body: Modern , stable , cool.
No prores, No LUT, maybe NO 8K……who cares :-P

My first Scarlet lenses were all EF-adapter Nikon AIs and I never had an issue.

Luca I think you're def on the right track...I'm certainly thinking much the same...

Also - who knows, there may be two tiers of RAVEN. One with fixed mount, one with out (ie one with EPIC DRAGON specs, other with SCARLET DRAGON specs)....
