I don't know . I just can't think of a spot in the market that's not already covered pretty well already .

The Black Magic Ursa mini is looking really good and it's cheap.

A clue might have been given on Jarred's Facebook last night when he announced the DJI 4 k camera ?
i though it was strange that he would say anything about it.
is it possible Red is making these?

Ohhhh.... I used to think it is insane talk RED making a m4/3 camera. But that bit if tidbit of info changed my mind! Maybe it is possible..... ? I hope RED does bring out a m4/3 camera :-D

It's workflow for CinemaDNG is through the roof. What are you going to do when you have 20 hours of CinemaDNG footage? R3Ds have a much better workflow.

3:1 compressed CinemaDNG is a pretty good size / quality compromise. You have to pay big RED bucks to get 3:1 REDCODE!

And if you want lower quality / faster turnaround job, just shoot ProRes.

That said, it would be AWESOME to see RED take on the Ursa Mini! It would be like the times of old, except now I could actually afford a camera :)

If RED really wanted to be aggressive, they could sell the camera for a loss and make the profit selling the proprietary SSD media, haha!

m43 would be very unfortunate, I hope for S35 at least. Not that I will buy this camera, but for those who will

Wait a minute. Just hang on. The Scarlet-X already fits the profile of an affordable 4K camera that features Redcode. Why would RED sell a camera with more features for less money? Maybe there is a price reduction coming for the Scarlet.

Because the picture Jarred posted is of a WEAPON body :)

DJI compatible 4K aerial camera. :D

Red should buy DJI

DJI is doing about a billion dollars in sales this year and still growing with no end in sight so probably bigger than RED

In a year DJI will have sold more raw cameras then RED and BM combined. Not a sarcastic comment. Just looking ahead.

My hope is they make it with cheaper components to keep the price down but also develop it in a way that you can upgrade to a Side SSD and Mini Mags and attach all the higher-end accessories to it. Hopefully it's a Scarlet revamp that IS upgradeable. Otherwise RED will have gone against their philosophy of Obsolescence Obsolete. I mean that's one of the things RED has going for it that other manufacturers STILL aren't doing. If I can get one of these now and still upgrade to an Epic or Weapon later then color me excited.

I do agree with an earlier comment that they should go ahead and spill the beans on this to keep those who are ready to get an A7Rii or A7sii now from moving to Sony or any other manufacturer.

RED doesn't take aim at Blackmagic. Or the DSLR market specifically - their competition with those markets is incidental, not integral to their strategy. The market they have owned Alexa on is the high-end gimbal market, so far. Now that the Alexa Mini is out, they will have a little harder time dominating the space. So I think this will be a RED-specific camera targeting that market. If they incidentally cut into the lower end market by making a smaller, lighter, less fully featured camera - then they hit two markets simultaneously but, without compromising the focus on the high end. Just as people are buying Alexa Mini to trick it out, as a primary affordable camera fitted with Alexa sensor and color science, they'll buy the RED mini and do the same.

It's getting fun all over again! Really excited to see the specs and to see what RED can do to pack the most into the least. An itty bitty lightweight stealth RED would be oh my god good....

I really don't understand RED's gameplay here. Instead of just introducing a new body for all their lineup, we now have a lineup with the two extremes, the most expensive and the cheapest. Which once again leaves the majority of users where their at because a fair number of people don't have money for the weapon upgrade, and why would they downgrade to 4k from the scarlet? Can't we get a scarlet-weapon or epic-weapon version with the standard upgrades that come with time and new technology?

we don't know what their gameplay actually is. this is all just speculation.... passing time while we wait to see what these mad scientists are cooking in the lab...

I do not think that they would add to their lineup unless they were either creating a new market, as they did with 4K RAW, or responding to a new market challenge (gimbal/drone).

If they could use their MX tech, correct the magenta shift with an OLPF, add it new and better boards requiring less power, less room, less everything (customisation, wireless options, lut etc) and you could have 4k for the masses that runs on a single redvolt for 1h30

Hoping this is not gonna be another 3K for 3K. I just don't think RED will be able to compete with Blackmagic URSA Mini 4K and Sony a7S II which are both groundbreaking cameras under 3K$ each.
