By 2106 I really hope I'll have 4k distribution to my apartment

I did an A/B test of 4K vs 1080p, and 4K sets start to make sense at 70" and above unless you watch from within 3 feet or need a ton of desktop real estate on your computer. A 4K Tablet is unnecessary.
Ha, no bluray 4k included, elitest.
"The 4K first date" I like that Phill, funny thing is that I have been shooting 4K since 2008 and sit
on a huge bank of 4K Natural History Footage, but all the time still output stuff for clients in 1080.
My date with 4K never seems to end except I have not met the my 4K girl.
I have a Nexus Android for the last two years which displays 2K and a LG 4K monitor in the studio.
I still fell again for a new 4K girl a LG G3 phone with Quad Display or 2K and a video in 4K.
Just addicted I guess to a girlfriend without an outlet. :w00t:
Saw Hilarious Parody on youtube on Red Cameras just laughed my head off.

Its good to not take everything so seriously but then I will still try to get another
4K date.

And while at it:
The only way to see 4k on a 4k screen is to feed it uncompressed 4k.
Any compression in the game and 4k image information goes out of the window.
My 4K relationship is similar
My old girlfriend, the RED, got too heavy for me ( I do mostly 3rd world run n gun trips and have back problems recently ), so I locked her in a room and now have a new relationship with this cheap 4K whore called GH4 , and her little sister LX100. They weight as much as heroin addict, I like that look. They 'put out' about the same as the fat date RED, which really amazed me, because their 'bio sheets' sheets would say otherwise. The proof is on the TV set .
It's hard for RED's mommy to deal with these tramps. Panasonic pimps 5000 GH4 units a month. A lot of men here wouldn't be caught dead with such low cost sluts. It's not a long term relationship however. The moment I see a hotter date in Vegas or some other seedy place, I'll dump here in a second ( even in a trash dumpster, she is so cheap! ) and try the new one.
4K BluRay is a non-starter... a still born product of grey haired engineers who cling to the notion of physical media and traditional 'ownership' of said physical media. At best it will become a niche product owned by people who like to crow about how they have the best and the rest of the population is missing out... as they rewind their reel to reel tape deck to listen to a freeform jazz performance for the umpteenth time.
Just my opinion of course - but the reality is this: there is no place in North America to rent physical media anymore. When I say 'no place' I mean that there is no-where that is convenient for the average suburban household to stop off and rent a movie while doing their weekly grocery shopping. Within a 15 Km radius of my house - none exist; and I live in the 5th most populated city in North America. That barrier of convenience means that people will be unwilling to purchase a new box, for fear of A) not being able to rent movies, and B) it will be obsolete / leapfrogged before they get it set up. Most people are going to move to streaming VOD & OTT services.
I agree with Glen, the universe has moved away from physical media. Which means that 4K delivery will have to hurdle over the signal degrading multiple compression and decompression schemes of digital TV. Also, providers are probably still hashing out how best to fleece the consumer for higher quality delivery.
I think the physical media of Blu ray and the higher quality DVD compression gave the HD TV market a really big push for adoption of 1080/720 as a viewing standard.
I guess my general question from a consumer standpoint would be is HD to 4K the same jump as SD to HD? Are consumers as enamored with 4K as they were with HD back in the day? Also, I think console gaming played into the matrix of HD Tv sales.
My fear is that more and more people will be watching our work on lousy smartphones and computer displays. It's sad to me that as the quality of digital images goes up, average people seem to want to go out and buy the cheapest possible displays for home use. 4K has no meaning when it's a bad flat panel display, completely misadjusted, with terrible gamma and black settings and colors that are out the window. My crystal ball says: in 2020 most folks will watch 1080 on 4k screens, just like most folks see 720 (or worse) on HD screens in 2015.
