4K Challenge - 72hr RED Film Competition

second that. really nice.
(ps who's A.Lincolon? ahah)

Thanks guys!

Hahaha... I was tired, my spelling was bad and conversion to pixel ratio was off... On the other hand, it will be fixed for the 2K screening in LA.

Nice job everyone, the videos are really impressive. I've enjoyed watching them all :)

Really impressed with everyones work.

by the way - this was my first time exporting/editing/etc and i was wondering if there isnt a way to avoid the blotchyness in these lower rez quicktimes? The gamma shift coupled with the blotches - blech.

Don't know...

I uploaded a pretty good looking H.264 file to VUZE. It was VBR targeted at 6mbps, 9mbps max. Not as good as what I would output for Blu-Ray or anything like that, but pretty darn good for the web. VUZE recompressed it to about 1/5th of the original size and kinda butchered it.

Guys, I just checked and everyone submissions are in the 4k Challenge channel on Vuze. If for whatever reason you cannot see them sign out and sign back in to the client interface.
I can see them all,

Thanks

In the top right corner of the web view there is a setting to view/hide mature content. If you labeled your film mature and you can't see it, try allowing mature content. That fixed it for me. I don't remember ever changing that setting, but that seemed to be the issue.

Yep, did it for me too.

Yep, that fixed it... I thought I had already enabled that... Oh, it must have gotten reset because I had vuze crash on me so I reinstalled. Turns out it was a problem with adobe flash player (the crash, that is), had to reinstall flash.. Anyway, all good now.

I think a thumbs up is 10 points - a thumbs down is zero. Your rating is the average. Thats my take, anyway.

I have a sense that if people watch it and don't vote, that it also counts against you (but I'm not certain).

Cheers,
Tim

That's kind of a bummer of it's the case, since it is clearly the case of most people.

Many people I talked to didn't know how to vote...

Here in SF, the paralux crew and close friends had a cozy screening of all the films. We had a blast and really enjoyed how all of us teams from everywhere got together to create in 72 hours.. it's really amazing !! I wish the best of luck to everyone, and can't wait to do this again.. thanks Mike for putting this on.. and props to the RED team for creating an invisible unity and community of filmmakers..

cheers

Maybe i can help shed a little light for you guys on the Vuze voting/ranking system. In the details/info page of your content people can vote thumbs up and thumbs down as well as make a comment. Vuze calculates the average between downloads and thumb ratings. If you have 100,000 downloads of your content it will take quite a bit more to sway the overall 1-10 ranking of your content than if you have 100 downloads. Hope this helps to clear up any confusion for you all.

That said, the top three prizes will be awarded via judges choice and the forth will be viewers choice on Vuze which will be an average of Downloads and 1-10 votes. Our original time table for announcing the winners was going to be this weekend which we still might make but count on early next week, Monday/Tuesday since we had a slight delay in getting all the submissions in and organized, (Vuze being down).

Please, even if you don't plan on attending the LA screening, contact Darren and get us a ProRes 1080p Master of your film to us by Monday January 26th. It would be greatly appreciated!

I want to congratulate everyone on their hard work and efforts! I would also like to thank our sponsors Cineform, OpenCut, ASLgear, Rubber Monkey Software, Downtown independent, Reactor 88 Studios, and Vuze for making this possible. Everyone did an amazing job and the submissions look great! We know there were some bumps along the way and we are determined to have a more streamlined and exciting competition coming soon. We plan on continuing the competition with different requirements, timetables etc. and hope you all will compete again!

Like Jim, we plan on rewarding the early adopters, those of you who took the time out of your busy schedules to create a film with us.

Thanks again for your support and we will get you more details regarding judging, the screening, and future challenges shortly.

Thanks again Mike for organizing all of this. Cant wait for the next one. There have got to be some three day weekends around the corner, right?
