With so many 4K cameras and camcorders around now, what would you list as the main Epic features that make it worth twice/thrice the competition's costs?

naturally red is still king and heading to 6k etc..

but id like to see how big the list of features can go.

There's that JVC that's around $5k.

Apart from that most are scarlet or epic money at least (At 12p the gopro is not a 4k camera).

it appears that JVC also records 4k as 4 separate 1080p streams each on its very own SD card. That sounds like a recipe for disaster, both for on set tracking of media and post work.

Also, make sure you compare which 4k cameras are shooting 4k Raw. Most of them in the cheaper price ranges aren't.

Also remember that Epic is a 5K camera capable of 120 FPS. The difference between 4K and 5K is a big deal in regard to VFX, post stabilization and cropping, frame grabs for print, etc... and $6K for upgrade to 6K is a very big deal. Any new word on when the dragon sensor may be coming out?

Oh yeah, and RAW. HUGE.

Red has said that 4K is where the future is, but there is a lot more to the Epic than Resolution... Redcode, RAW, the accessory ecosystem, the ability to upgrade, frame rates, Dynamic Range....

5k, Raw, 120fps-300fps (2k), HDRx, 24 Bit Audio, best upgrade paths in the history of the industry...

I would say the gap between the Scarlet & Epic is massive, making the difference between the JVC and the Epic not even worth discussing.

However, the F5 vs Scarlet and F55 vs Epic conversations will likely be interesting, but no one will know until we start seeing these Sony cams in the wild, and that conversation will likely become trivial almost immediately with the $6k Dragon upgrade. I would not want to be a company competing with Jannard and Red.

Just yesterday I was so happy to have an Epic at hand next to two Scarlets: We needed 50 fps in 3K HD to deliver perfect 1080i50 in the end. Something the Scarlets still can't do.

I must admit that it would be great if RED could squeeze those two frames (or one frame for HDRx) out in a future update for us Europeans, though…

RAW, Latitude, Resolution (5K -> True 4K), Post Production Support (Native support in Adobe CS and Red Rocket), easy to use lenses with virtually any mount.
