Im flying in from the UK and I'm in Hollywood for 48 hrs and keen to cram in as much as I can film related. What should I put on my list?
I'm off to Duclos and and some Post facilities but am around for a beer coffee if anyone is up for a bit of transatlantic networking.
Only found out I was coming today and I arrive tomorrow eve.
( shame your not in town Joseph Hutson but I might be out to see you in Dubai next week with a Duclos 11-16 for ya to play with)

To Jon: If you haven't made it to RED Studios to see the good people there, that's a no brainer. What a bummer it is that I can't be there, but I'm really looking forward to our ongoing collaborations here in Dubai.

Two of my favorite eating places are (1) for breakfast, I always take my friends to The Griddle Cafe on Sunset Bl. And (2) for the perfect mid-Afternoon treat, you need to go to Urth Cafe for their Vanilla Milkshakes with a shot of expresso.

To the REDuser community: If you want to have a great time and meet someone new, Jon is a wonderful individual and you should definitely contact him to meet up and network if you have some spare time.

Safe travels, Jon, and see you in a week!

I'll second the Urth Cafe and Griddle! If you're into food I'd check out the Foundry on Melrose for some good eats. Lot's of tasty places out here in LA.

I'm shooting Friday, Saturday, and teach on Sunday. Otherwise I'd come out and play!

Hey Jon,

I am on the east coast so not able to meet up. Hopefully someone will be available to meet with you. Just remember that if you are driving, we drive on the right side of the road ;)

Webster

Jon, if you are driving in the US, please do play it safer than the last time we saw you drive...

You probably know already. The Peterson Automotive Museum on Wilshire Blvd. Exhibits rotate every 3 months or so, so it is everchanging. For one of the last few "Old Hollywood" haunts, Musso Franks on Hollywood Blvd. or the Formosa Cafe on Santa Monica Blvd. Lunch/dinner: Yamashiro Japanese Restraunt with Garden in the Hollywood Hills with a spectacular view. If in L.A. on Saturday or Sunday, Venice Beach. Enjoy.

Can't believe nobody has suggested In n Out Burger.

Also, most of the major grip manufacturers are in LA. As well Duclos Lenses, Abel Cine, and the like. Kis ina candy store.

Jon,

If you are mobile, take a drive through the Hollywoood Hills during daylight hours - you will be amazed how many of the houses appear to break the rules of physics considering they are in eathquake country.
From there, go up to the Griffith Observatory (located in Griffith Park on the south slope of Mount Hollywood) you'll be treated to a great vista of LA at night - it's only open until 10 PM - it's easy to spend a couple of hours there - especially if you stay around to look through the public telescope on the roof (Zeiss optics).

If you make it over to the Santa Monica pier, there was a Cirque show under a tent there a few weeks ago. Some of the locals can tell us if that was temporary or long term.

If you do stay a day or two into the week and you get over to RED, nearby in Burbank is FilmTools (and a number of other suppliers). It's worth spending some time over there - a lot of the accessories we depend on - and a few we might not know about are on display.

Have fun!
