My camera operator is not happy with the original red handheld solution, so we tried the 435 handheld. The problem is I cannot mount the shoulder pad (it only fits on 435...) so I am thinking of the 535 handheld because the shoulder pad is already mounted on the handheld.

Did anyone try this solution (535 or LT handheld) or CAN anyone try this for me, please?!? I have to make an equipment order till 5th and I will only get the camera on 10th so I cannot check if this works...

Thanks...

Neither of them work with the RED....however, SIM has a solution. You need to buy the toe peice (small base plate) and the HH system.

I don't have the option of buying anything unfortunately...435 handheld works with an arri BP8, I just need a pad solution for it...

therefore a bp8 and arri 535 or LT...??? have you tried it to know it doesn't not work?

The 535 shoulder pad sits too far back on the RED's body to be useful. The shoulder of your operator should be underneath [if a little behind] the side start/stop button. Using the 535 system will put your shoulder under the sticker on the bottom rear of the camera. It'll be unusably front-heavy.

I found the 535 handheld unit to be quick and useful. I'm using the 15mm Arri bridgeplate and if I put the red drive and batt on the back of the camera that it's balanced enough for me. I haven't tried the setup with a viewfinder, since I don't own one. Maybe that would make it too front heavy, but I find that it isn't as front heavy as people on here make it out to be. I always rent out the 535 unit for my red handheld. I'll probably bite on the element technica setup when it's finished.

I'm sure people will disagree, but i think the 535 handheld unit is definitely worth trying out.

I have already ordered the comfort cushion...
I'll take the original red handheald just in case, order the 435 and in the meantime try to get a 535 handheld for my DOP to try out ... since we also have an easyrig on set I think we'll make something out of it

then I'll get back to you :ninja:

thanks all...

Our rental mounted the 435 and shoulder pad directly on a red cheese plate with a couple of screws and it worked.

Regarding balance, I pushed the battery cradle as far back as possible on the (super light must love them) carbon rods and with Cooke S4 lenses and LMB5 it was fine. With a different matebox (MB20) for counter weight we just had disk inside the cradle.
