  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4 New OLPF's for Dragon!

Quick update. You guys keep surprising me with the popularity of these filters :)

Just one solitary Full Spectrum remains in stock right now. The next (larger) batch is about 5 weeks out.
Next week the small run of IR-pass units will ship.

Parts for the Lowcon versions are in production, but still several weeks out.

We will adding to the roster in around 6 weeks a Full Spectrum filter with standard OLPF function, for anyone wishing to avoid aliasing issues.

Pretty awesome stuff. Looking forward to see how the STH-LC will look.
Any chance for a sneak peak? :)

Here's some R3D snapshots to get you prepared for your Full Spectrum OLPFs inbound.

Nothing fancy, just something you can see what different things look like and to mess with curves.

This was with my Orange / Red filter, so it's not only IR.

Thanks for posting these Charles, very fun. Mine arrived today, haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

Hello,

I would like to buy some KipperTie OLPF's but I would love to see some comparative tests between the Olpfs and the RED one's for example. A whide shot of a city with a couple of person in sunlight and at night would be great.

Pat, from what I can tell so far, Full Spectrum OLPF is much more about experimentation with curves and filtering in front of the lens, that I doubt that a straight forward shot will tell you much except for maybe potential flaws, which are by the way listed on Kipper Tie packaging (including "bizarre colour"). :)

It all depends where you want to go with it.
I'll try and post some examples as I go along, I'm also interested in seeing the skin especially in B&W as well as the low light performance.

Thanks for your input.

Film about a drug addict.

Some Acid / LSD look! ;-)

Here is a quick cam test full nite with only a small glowing embers and just a couple small flames campfire about 3 feet away to his camera left. We wanted to see if we could shoot a cine with only the glow from the fire for lights. I think we answered our question.. ISO 2000, 35mm 1.4 Leica. 29.97frame rate...no shutter.
After this test Im starting to think we haven't even started to scratch the surface of what the Dragon sensor can do yet. Cant wait to see what the Weapon will add to what the sensor can do.

link?

John or anyone, have you tried a UV bandpass filter with the full spectrum OLPF - like a UVR PrecisionU or AndreaU, curious if the Dragon sensor has much sensitivity in the UV spectrum?

no b&w john?

*** All KipperTie OLPFs are compatible with upcoming Weapon body ***

How can they be compatible with Weapon if the mounting system is changing?

The glass is directly compatible, and we will be offering a swap-out on the frame - details still in the balance. I know some of our glass has already seen action with weapon :)

Is there a recommended ISO to stay at for this? It'll be my first time using the Full-Spectrum Zero Lowpass next week.

Normal approach applies really. Generally this filter allows a healthy amount more red/warm light to hit the sensor, but that's not to say you should crank the ISO regardless. I still aim to expose as hot as I can without clipping highlights I intend to retain.

What's the word on those Low-cons?

Raw parts are all either built or en-route from suppliers, and more than just one option will be produced.
We're still a few weeks out on these however. It's new territory. We've had to take some existing industry concepts and shrink them by a factor of ten.

Cool, thanks! Are the lead times on your site up to date - IR 7 days/Full - 30 days ?

Actually that needs an update - /slaps wrist/

Both should read around 14 days at present. We have new bigger batches shipping to us around the 18th. We got screwed for time by QC on the IR-only and switched suppliers, which was a hassle... but all getting back on track.

This one's under investigation... info coming soon - I have a batch of UV lights and filters for testing on my bench.
