  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4 Bay Drive

Yes it´s a good price, but you would need SSD´s to max it out, which is quite expansive. I bought a pegasus recently and then I did the calculation that it´s better and more space / cost effective to get an 8 bay raid with HDD´s as it gives more space per coin and the 8 drives reach top speed of the TB2.0. With only 4 slots you need the SSD´s, those are rather small and costly, so possibly in the end it´s still a better alternative to run with a higher number of bays and HDD´s instead as 4 HDD´s will not max it out the thunderbolt. And in terms of cost you would land at about the same numbers in the end.

but off course it´s all depending what you will use it for.

Your right Björn, but I was more looking at it as second Raid drive, to make 2, 3 or 4 copies, 1 per drive, for client, director, editor, and who ever production wants to have... on a 2 day base commercial work.

Whoa $500 for a 4 bay hardware raid 5. That's pretty snazzy. I wonder who makes the goods.

They are this http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-speed-studio without drives. Wonder how OWC got hold of them. Maybe they are getting them from the same supplier OEM manufacturer as G-Tech, but even OWC's model number starts with GT which would be G-Technology in my mind. Could be refurb enclosures or OWC bought a bunch at a great price and removed the HDD to sell the enclosure and HDD separately as part of an agreement.
