The future is NOT active glasses. That is preposterous. Simply incredibly stupid.

The "consortium" announced that active glasses are in our future. Not. Samsung, Panasonic and Sony.

Watch here for what the future really looks like.

Trust me on this one. They have lost their minds... really. I'll bet my lifelong reputation on it.

Hehehe....

Can we expect that Scarlet will be included in that "future" ?

It'd be a great cam for 3D rigs.

I think 3D needs a spec more than anything.
There is so much floating around that its just making it very difficult for everyone to figure out what to do and what not to do.

With 3D, there's a whole new eco-system that needs to be put into place to ensure that what you intend to deliver to your audience is actually what they see!

Passive glasses have their drawbacks as well, dont they?

Quick to edit, i aint advocating that the consortium is right, i am just wondering what the Spec would eventually be!~

So....passive polarized?

Thanks for saying what I have been thinking. Glad to know, you don't need their money.

But if SONY, SAMSUNG AND LG want to fund WavesDVD.com relaxing videos in 3D with shades 8-) - I'm open for FREE new gear...

But Jim, as an early supporter but not a buyer #217 (no sound active) I'd like to buy a Scarlet to shoot in 3k for 2D for blu-ray.

I'd love to follow up the best selling #1 "Hawaii Beaches" Blu-Ray and 5 star on Amazon (shot on an Sony EX-1) with a "HD Caribbean Beaches 2" shot on a Scarlet instead.
Please make my dreams come true this time. I can't wait for Scarlet and or Canon 5D mark 3.... who will be the first to market? Only time will tell.... I will probably buy both.

RED will define the new spec. Not Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. I don't mean to be hyper-anything, but these guys don't deserve to be in control of your future. The decisions they are making are NOT in the best interests of the consumer.

We'll see what happens.

I so agree. I so hate them. And this so feels like a short lived thread.

What I don't get is that even iPhones already have the half-half polarized screens already, at least, it seems to be so if I put on my polarized glasses.

But you're talking about your direct retinal projection laser system, of course, aren't you :p ?

Indeed. I still fail to understand why they invest so heavily in glass-required 3D.

I speculate that the next batch of videogame consoles (Xbox 3 and Playstation 4, which will probably come around 2013) will help make glassless 3D at home ubiquitous.

The PS2 did it for DVD. The Xbox 360 did it for HD Gaming and 24/7 online consoles. The PS3 did it for Blu-Ray.

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 already support 3D, but it's still niche and the games don't run at 1080p.

I expect Full 3D 1080p gaming to push the whole glassless 3D thing foward.

The movie industry will surely ride the wave by re-releasing the catalogue of the 3 or so years since the 3D Reinassance.

At the very least if passive glasses is a trend they should make double the res televisions so we can have full HD.

So Jim, be honest... you buy Oakley back with Warren Buffet... at 6% return, not bad in this economy like B of A... and you make 3D shades for TVs... but really you are gonna do 4D shades shades thing with both vibration and time travel for the RED Dragon? Am I right, or am I just sore from my new Red Dragon Tattoo.?! ;-)
