I've been shooting 360° panoramas with my Nikon D700 and I usually do a 3 to 5 shot bracket anywhere from 1.3 to 1.7 stops between brackets for HDR. So I decided to take my Scarlet X out for a spin on a recent job and the results are quite good considering I don't have to be concerned about taking multiple shots. I just use my light meter and set the appropriate amount of HDRx and I'm good to go! This allows me to shoot much quicker. It also speeds up my post workflow because I no longer have to mess with HDR sofware which often gives fake colors. I still need to get used to working with these R3D's to expose, develop, and post process them better. I believe I can get these images to look a little cleaner with a different noise reduction plugin. I'm currently processing out the noise, removing CA, and sharpening the image using Adobe Camera Raw on the exported TIFF's from REDCineX Pro.

You can change locations by clicking on the drop down list on the top right corner of the panorama player.

There's a bit too much noise for my taste in the "Living Room" shot probably because I under exposed the A track.

Dining Room = 5 stop HDRx ISO800
Living Room = 5 stop HDRx ISO800
Onsen (sauna) = 3 stop HDRx ISO800

Danai,

Thanks for showing that. I was wondering how Panoramas would work out with the Scarlet. Lots of possibilties. Looking forward to seeing that process in person in Bangkok sometime ;-)

Great work Danai! Also interested in making similar panos with the Scarlet-x. Do you have a picture of your setup?

My current workflow is export stills from REDCineX Pro as 16bit TIFFs. Open these TIFFs with Adobe Camera Raw to add sharpening, noise reduction, and apply lens profile to remove CA. Then i stitch in PTGui export as 16bit TIFF again and then do additional global and local levels and curve adjustments as needed in Photoshop.

Currenty shooting two rows of 8 images with my Nikon 10.5DX fisheye lens because my panorama head is not tall enough to point the camera straight up. Using 360precision Adjuste MkII pano head. I'm modifying my pano head to make it taller so i can do 1 row of 8 images and 1 nadir shot.

Will post pics soon.

Great work Danai,
i love to be able to do this here in LA.
would you explain the tools and process?
thanks

I have seen Phil Holland's tutorial using this head but with a 5d mark II. Awesome and very detailed. I wish he releases an update for the epic or scarlet as I'm sure it will yield beautiful results..
He gives a very detailed coverage of PTGui as well.
