Hi,

At the end of the month I will be undertaking my first real shoot on Red One as a DP. It is for a video clip set in a warm, underground party style environment. The lighting for this clip is largely justified by practicals which will at this point all be roughly tungsten balanced. I am aware that the R1 is balanced naturally for 5600 so I am wondering if this is going to be an issue?? I don't really want to correct all the practicals back to daylight, some of them i probably can't, such as fairy lights (at least not without a lot of trouble). I also don't want to have to shoot with an 80a and lose 2 stops, mostly because I don't have 2 stops to lose.

Can I just shoot it and do a first light in Red Alert or cine-x to correct it? How will this turn out? Does anyone have any suggestions, they would be much appreciated!!

The primary thing, if you have the means, is to add a touch more exposure (say a 1/3 to 1/2 of a stop) to your shadow areas under tungsten conditions to compensate somewhat for the underexposure of the chip's blue pixels. You'll still have some noise in the blue channel that you wouldn't under daylight balanced light, but adding a bit of light reduces the overall noise in the darker parts of your image.
The Mysterium-X chip behaves better than the Mysterium vs. low blue light levels, so if you're shooting with an M-X camera I wouldn't worry overmuch about the lack of blue in your tungsten light.
