I'll just assume Red is testing these already...

Please, Please tell us that these are being tested and hopefully can do the job, at least for some levels of serious REDCODE i.e. maybe 4K 2:1.

32GB is a major deal for us underwater users as if we can get close to 20 minutes on a card we could eliminate the need for a hard drive inside the housing - allowing a smaller housing, less power draw, and significantly less heat.

Pretty please

Hi there,
Is there a way to get a 4k shoot on the ntsc cable? If not, is there a workaround?

Not sure what you are asking (but probably not) but this is the wrong thread for that question.

Not sure what you are asking (but if you mean can you get 4k image out of any of the outputs the answer is no) but this is the wrong thread for that question.

So back to the topic:

That's even better, most people could get away with 32GB and it's probably the sweeter spot price wise, but the availability of 64 makes it even more realistic to just eliminate the drive from the standard setup. Anybody that needs more than 32 would be able to just pony up the premium for 64gig cards. And even $800 isn't that bad compared to P2 prices of just a year or two ago.

PS B&H show "coming soon" and price of $439 for the 32gb

I need these yesterday, come'on :-)

Something to bear in mind is a lot of production insurance will not cover your rushes if you shoot on third party cards. I heard of someone who found this out the wrong way.

That would have to change if RED approved third party cards.

bump for RED comment ? PLEASE

I second Michael's plea ... in an indoor pool the R1 with Red drive in a housing get VERY warm ... frankly I'm amazed it carries on working ... !

Widely available CF card of this capacity would be SUCH GOOD NEWS !!!

Wait a sec someone earlier said the 32gb would be the sweet spot but 2 32gb at 90 mb/s at 439.99 each which totals 879.98 is more expensive than the 64gb which is also 90 mb/s but is only 699.99??? Someone messed up there math. Anyways Its gonna be an exciting revolution none the less :biggrin5::biggrin5::biggrin5::biggrin5:

It should work out that 64 is cheaper since it is only one package but usually when they first come out you pay a premium for the higher capacity. If that's not the case even better.

Apparently, the thing you have to watch out for is sometimes they do some things in the cards that make them more prone to write speed hiccups - so for instance RED claims (or at least did at one point) that the 16 gig LEXAR 300x UDMA cards wouldn't write reliably in RED even though the 8 gig version did and is the one they used initially before they had their own branded (soderburgh used 200 of the 8 gig lexars for CHE and then they sold them off so I have six of them).

I need these cards yesterday too! $1500 for 32GB SxS cards is brutal. Then again, $4500 for the 128GB RED-RAM stings too. I haven't been able to get the ROI to work out on those yet. A rental here and there, and I need to use it here and there. Actually I pretty much just shoot to RED-RAM these days since I've got 'em and I feel more comfortable with the RAM than with the HDD for general reliability. I'm praying these cards work or we get something real similar from RED real soon!!!

Hope RED will be testing these cards soon...I can't imagine why these wouldn't work...but they know best.
