  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

30+ hours of operation and my new epic is already unusable.

Hi guys.

For the past week every time I start my camera I have this weird blue area on my display. If in the beginning it was randomly and was disappearing after some resolution changes, now is always there. After camera is warming up (45/55), the blue starts to fade away, but never completely.

Sometimes after some operation it becomes slightly noticeable. (But is there). At 4K is smaller, and at 3K crop, is outside. So, I believe is a sensor thing…

I don't even want to tell you guys what it means for me, and for my rental/filming company. Who would wait for me to “warm-up” my camera to... maybe... have a chance to shot something without the stupid blue area to visible? I lost 3-4 gigs, money and credibility.

Somebody has experienced a similar thing? . I already send my issues to RED support, but after 5 days of sending pictures and logs I still have nothing from them.

I rewrote the FW, many factory resets and did all possible BS calibrations.

Thanks,
Florin

ps. The blue area is also in the RAW Files.

Have you brought this issue to the attention of your bomb squad rep? What did they say about resolving the issue?

And, I suppose you allredy did a firmware reinstall, new blackshade, tested with different display, etc, question, Is the error in the files?

Sounds like you may be without a camera for a while - unfortunately. Do you have a back-up body?

Wait… You say you've lost 3-4 gigs? You didn't contact your rep the first time you saw this? Did you still try to take it out on paying jobs while you were experiencing this? If you did it's no wonder you lost credibility.

No, I contacted my rep immediately, but you know, people call me to hire me and I say.. CAN'T do it...because my camera is broke. So, doing that several times, I lost those clients. And my credibility because they knew me and waited for my camera to arrive, and now that new camera has problems, and can't help with their projects like I promised. This is the issue.

And I have no body because honestly I did not believe my RED will broke in two weeks after purchase. But RED (because they are smart guys), will find a magic solution for me....and a quick one. :)

Just curious, why not rent a body? Would have been worth the out of pocket costs to keep the clients? Not trying to be a jerk, just curious.

Never promise, never say your camera is broken, and always always always have a back-up body (either that you own, or can borrow from a trusted friend).

If you are doing it right you don't have to go out of pocket to rent a body for a paying client... just sayin'.

I understand your logic, but aren't many epic's around here to rent for a day or two, and I preferred to wait for RED for a quick solvable solution.

I know it sucks to disappointing extremity and the following comment is no comfort. - There is a general rule of thumb that barring accidents, if a problem is going to arise with electronic products, it will happen during about the first 50 hours or so of operation. Thereafter, one is apparently home free for 500 or many more hours for domestic appliances and apparently longer for professional equipment. The consolation is that it has happened early in the use cycle while all who pull the cameras apart are bright and fresh in the knowledge.

Again, just playing devils advocate, but seems your preference to wait for RED has cost you a couple clients. There are online places that will overnight ship a RED body for rent for reasonable $$. From what i see on the forum, RED has a spotty track record for coming up with "speedy" fixes for owners. They usually take care of the customer, but it seems fast solutions don't always happen.

Sorry this is happening, nothing like having your main piece of gear take dump so early on. I'm the tech for our camera package, and I've always got people and numbers to call to save my production if the sky falls in. Many times we have had to rent gear to replace gear that is in repair or just questionable.

Hope RED comes through for you, and if you don't mind please post your results back to this thread so others that are searching for a solution can find it.

Hello again.

I already receive a RMA for sending back the camera. I'll keep you posted with everything about this situation. At least from technical point of view if somebody else has a similar problem.

thanks.

^^^ Thank you for doing that. Not enough people post their solutions to the OP's problem when it gets resolved. If you post the fix, you might very well help many other people.

Good luck, hope everything works out!

Our Epic was faulty from the start. Purple pixels in highlight edges. We had to send it right back. Took less than two weeks before we had it back, and that included shipping from Norway. It's frustrating and bad luck, but that's life. Our Eoic has had about 360 hours since without a hitch. The service was great

If you in US, sure. But judging by OP's last name, it looks that he's probably in Bulgaria, which have nowhere near the number of Epics available for sub rent, like you'd find in US.
