Hey everyone,

I currently own a decent set of tungsten ranging from 150w to 2k, both fresnel and open face. However, I'm wondering what your professional opinion is on owning at least a 3 light kit for "out in the field indie film work"? Not really looking to break the bank and purchase Arri LED's, so with budget in mind, could anyone give some pointers and/or recommendations?

Thanks again,
Ron

Litegear Litepads are great! http://www.litegear.com

FloLight has BladeLights! Insane output, very high CRI, controllable, can dim, etc.

Or if that's still outside your price point...could always go with a set of F&V LED panels. Pretty cheap, decent CRI.

Seems like most LED's are flood. Does anyone use fresnel or the like? Or are the flat panel flood lights standard with LED kits?

check the fiilex or the aputure, for good budget and ability to modify the light. Also the Stella (pro 5000 or 7000) look pretty amazing, but more expensive. Files has a couple of 3 lights kits that are very nice and portable, and you can use them a bunch on small things. They have a fresnel lens you can attach to the front and makes them much more punchier.

My very strong recommendations are for the BB&S Pipeline 1' & 2' series for small super compact locations, and their Flyer for run & Gun overhead, while Nila to replace any and all your Tungstens lights, as this is what I am doing, mainly Zaila (200-HMI comparable) and Boxer (800-HMI comparable) units.

I have a the Astras and they are awesome!

+1. I have a lot of lights of all sorts and if you are looking for a compact kit with a decent amount of output, Astra are great and great for the price.

I personally use the Daylight ones for maximum output and gel accordingly.

My understanding is that the Astras don't use their emitters at full power so the bi-colors are about as bright as the daylight panel anyway. It's not like some LEDs where the bicolor panel can only match the daylight panel when set to 4300K. There is a small hit to power output in the bicolor model but it's not nearly a full stop and it's partly connected with a difference in beam angle. That said the bi-color is about 50% more expensive so there is still a reason to buy daylight.

Alladin FlexiLites with chimeras and eggcrates. Hands down.

Yeah, I am more interested in fresnels to replace my arri kit. I bought the Came-tv 55w Boltzen LED fresnels and they are great! They don't last long on a Sony Battery, So I tend to run them on V mounts. Build quality is pretty good considering the price.

These are my next investment but I may hold off until a group buy or NAB.

Anyone else have any LED fresnel experience?

Anyone used the Digital Sputnik DS-1s?

I'm going for a set of LEDs as well and I'm considering the new Kino Diva-Lite LED, the LiteMat S2 series, the Astras, Aladdin Flex and the DS1s.

Wish the Divas or the LiteMats had full RGB control. I'm into the idea of the Hive 100-Cs but still a few months before they ship.

I have been using Arri Skypanel S-30C for Key and L5-C for fill. I like the Skypanel a lot. I have a pair of the Kickerstarter lights on order.

Agreed, If money isn't an object than SkyPanels are all the way.

How's the color accuracy on those Skypanels? The two tests I've seen both mentioned the Skypanels having a green spike, one of the reasons I went for the Softpanels (which never actually delivered). That said, I know you can update fw on the Arris. Wondering if that's something they've addressed?

Looks like about $6k to outfit one complete S30c kit. Pricey but I love the RGB control.

Hi, my first post here on Reduser. Albeit being member on DVXuser since 2006 or so :).
Kinotehnik Practilite 602 LED Fresnels seem quite popular at BH.
Super high quality build and available as kits. If I'm not mistaken Ray Roman uses those too.
Those bi-color focusable lights will replace 300W tungstens or about 650W tungstens when CTB1 is used for converting it to daylight.
Two hours of operation on single 90Wh broadcast battery.

All the best,
Tonis
