Hello chaps

this is an odd one. Shot a short film on the Epic last weekend and all looks great but we are having issues. There appears to be drop frames on the footage. When the slate is in and we advance frame by frame it skips a frame every now and then. Timebase was 25p, frame rate 25p and shutter speed 1/50th...

experienced the same issue a few weeks back as well on 25fps on EPIC AT FF 5K

Philip happens with all programs? adobe redcine-x, davinci ..?
Very strange, this frame every second.

It's the cameras way to tell you to shoot 24p ;)

Can you send me your test clip?

A slate may not give you an accurate picture because there's no way to
make sure the slate is in phase with the sensor. May or may not be
what you're seeing.

Phil, Did not deal with I noticed it when rendering material, I looked in both REDCINE X and Resolve. I saw the Issue Mainly when Panning the camera in 5K FF

I do not have access to the material anymore so I can not fix you a clip

What slate were you using?

I've seen this happen on iPad/iPhone slates due to the shutter/sensor being slightly out of phase with the slate. I'd run some tests with the slate (if you can)

Also does the timecode on the footage itself jump frames?

I've definitely noticed some strangely advancing numbers with ipad slates when stepping through, but have put this down to the out of phase thing as mentioned above.

does it definitely drop 1 frame every second? i.e for every full 25 frames you advance it leaves you 1 frame out on the slate?

Hi all, can someone explain this one to me : When the slade is in...
Is it when the slade, the thing that counts time and frames) is in front of the camera ? And you want the slate to match the frames captures by the RED EPIC...?

When the slate is in and we advance frame by frame ...

Going to put a screen flow video of it happening...happens in red cine x, pro and premiere...

Funny I got a call last night from one of my producers saying they had the same problem but only when they tried to go from ProRes to 4K for SFX. I didn't get the details but they had to buy some sort of software to correct it.

I'll check in with him to find out the full scoop.

I found it pretty strange was shot with an MX R1 in January. Could be a software thing...

I've got to suggest that before calling these 'drop frames' I'd want to see a test of the camera versus real world motion. A spinning wheel or any other easily judged continuous motion will easily allow you to judge whether frames have been dropped or not. Dropping a frame in 14 would wreck footage.

I've shot 25p with our M right from the start and never had an issue like this... I can see this being a sync issue, but only a serious one if you're jamming TC from the slate not running loose. Even then I'd point the finger at the slate before the camera.

Agreed but the sound is not syncing up at all. Going out very fast
