Well in PAL land we shoot traditional 24p or 24fps if its film.
My best advice is to ask your distributor what they prefer. And get those specs in writing. What if I'm shooting a film in Australia and have no idea where it will end up (most likely Tv/ web but with hopes of Cinema).. should I shoot 25p? Everyone keeps telling me different things, it's quite annoying

If it's mainly TV & home video for Australia, you could certainly shoot and finish entirely in 25fps. Be aware that some older theaters cannot handle 25fps DCPs, so you may have to go to the expense to convert to 24fps for a DCP at the end of the project.
