Just a quick question

My EVF is not working, so now I only have my RED 5.6" monitor to work with. But I need a monitor for my focus puller. Any idea how to do this?
The solution I see is connecting another monitor to the HDMI. But that is not the same as the EVF or the RED monitor, and also I usually use the HDMI out for a monitor for the director.
So, any ideas? What do others do? Is there any way of using the EVF output on another monitor?
I do now have the Teradek 120 connected wifi to an iPad for the director, but that only works in doors and not out in the field, because when I bought the Teradek I did not know it did not come with the Lemo adaptor to feed it electricity from the AUX out of the RED, so now I am stuck to using it from a power supply in doors...

Is something wrong with your SDI output?

Just make sure to get a quality monitor that re-clocks input SDI signals and you'll be fine with a 720p feed from the R1.

If you are committed to HDMI, then I can suggest a splitter - but I've never used one on an R1 so be prepared for a little hassle.

If you do start using the R1's SDI output regularly, I do recommend Element Technica's breakout box, which gives you full size SDI connectors. The little connectors are fine for occasional use, but for regular on set use they are sort of a disaster.

SmallHD DPX comes in an SDI version, as do some of Ikan's monitors - so you can easily get an SDI monitor for under $1200.

Consider your HD-SDI output and an inexpensive monitor like a Marshall.

Bright, sharp, light, tough and your FP will love it. HDMI (buy the splitter from them it is very nice) or get the SDI/HDMI version for the most possible connections and usage. Using HDMI you will get the full RED menu info on-screen. Using SDI you do not get menu's but the image is larger and therefore better for focus. Be sure to get the sunhood from them.

I'm using mine as my EVF until the BOMB arrives.

Thanks for the help, it's really great to have some feedback.

REDUSER is the best!

Pulling focus off a monitor is in no way ideal (you're always behind on the action). I'm sorry to hear you have to sort this out for your focus puller... Was there no way to put down marks? Is your first new?
