  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st Scarlet....

Thanks Mr. T ! Please write a first impressions review (if you have time), it would be greatly appreciated. It will have a huge following, I can guarantee that! ;-)

Hey Ketch!! =)
Yes definitely you are right on that. I fixed it.

Also, I will be doing a first impression blog write up tonight.

Also forgot to mention, I just got this gem back:

Hey guys!
Thanks for being so patient.

Truth is, for the first day I didn't really get to touch the camera until after my day long meetings. After that I immediately went to the nearest starbucks to upload a few vimeo vids of the Scarlet playback and startup. I then spent the night and following morning using the Scarlet to shoot the final shots for a feature film titled "Innocence Blood" which we used Epic on. Unfortunately because those are for the film, I can't share all the of clips (though I did sneak in one frame grab).

My use of the Scarlet was a seamless transition. As Graeme stated earlier, it is essentially an Epic, just without the higher frame rates and 5k at 24fps (does 12fps though).
The camera was stable the entire time. Rock solid. Playback works without a hitch.
Yesterday afternoon, I was too ambitious, I wanted to get a lot done in a short amount of time.
I wasn't able to do it.

I know it doesn't take more than a couple minutes to shoot and upload to Vimeo, but I want to put up something more nice than the typical... here is my backyard kind of shots.
Otherwise, I would have immediately uploaded the stuff I shot in Starbucks hehe.

So please bear with me. This is likely going to be the very first footage..so I have the impossible task of meeting high expectations. I want to put forth the best footage i can by the end of today for your consumption. =)

After I get the footage, which I will upload to vimeo, I will post more insights, more photos..and will try to answer all scarlet questions within my ability.

Can't wait to hear more dude. It's really amazing how much this entire community is a total captive audience for your feedback :)

Thanks Tonaci...
Take your time buddy.
Cheers

Don't push yourself too hard, Tonaci!

You are the man!!

I can't wait to see the results of your testing today! We know what to expect from the footage, but what I am curious about is its time lapse capabilities (if any). Battery life and overall stability. Im currently shooting a television show and would love to switch over to scarlet but we move super fast and it needs to be dependable. I know the build quality is bombproof. Thanks T!

Thanks for all the up dates Tonaci its really appreciated. Look forward to your full blog and footage as and when it arrives.

Good point. Take your time. Does the Scarlet have production numbers on the bottom?

He he., I can only imagine buddy... ;)

NOw don't go get confusing any one as the difference form SCARLET X to EPIC is the Frame Rate, but SCARLET does have 5k, just only at 12fps... I read it as you posted as if doesn't have 5k... ;)

Begs the question Ketch, could you theoretically, shoot 24fps, at 5K through a 3D rig, but outputting to 2D, using the bursts of 12fps, with two Scarlets automatically set to go off in seq.? I know just buy an Epic, but could this be done?

As far as my understanding goes, the way a 2D version of a 3D film is made is by just using the viewpoint of one camera. So I don't think this would work? Even trying to match the viewpoints between both cameras seems a bit problematic to me.

Outputting to 2d would make it to where it would cut back and forth from slightly different perspectives every frame.

I think.

Around the :30 mark.

But maybe less extreme.

Been refreshing your twitter all day long today Tonaci :)

I'm sure the pictures you'll get and post on Vimeo and as R3Ds will be worth the wait
