  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LOL
Thanks San.
I actually appreachiated that comment a lot.

The idea is to describe a "state" with two defined breaks and with two slightly different perspectives, rather than a "story"

I see that it can ve refined a lot.

It's more of a conceptual thing than a full story, even though I hope the breaks gives a story and a context to the concept.

But I do appreachiate that it can be interpreted as "nothingness". Which is either good or bad.

In a Becket/Godot way. It's good.
In a "Caught" wai, it might be bad.

Thanks again for the comment!

Cheers

Gunleik,

maybe try later to make a sort of movie shot on stage, that girls and a guy, stage lights, music, sounds and Epic.

I would like to watch that a performance like kind of experimental movie.

Nice thread Gunleik.

Nice thread Gunleik.

Jim

Thank YOU Jim for being stubborn and patient and liquid :-) and passionate enough to force this crazy cam through its development cycles!

Besides, you said you wanted to see more, And there will be more...

Thanks again!

G

Gunleik , thank you so much for this thread. Awesome shots! Great atmosphere! This is very much appreciated. I wish I could share, but due to lack of hardware... I guess the other M owners are too busy experimenting and shooting themselves. I guess this will change over time - the feedback part that is.
Until then: thanks again for this awesome thread!

LOL

You're not missing a thing! :-)

To me what is cool about the Epic is the creative possibilities as to what - in my eyes - still looks very good, even though "technically" not "right".

The contrast is set to 111 on the 1st, just because I think that looked good. Pushing all the focus towards here one eye.
All that is done in post.

As to the 2nd, it is overexposed (well not really as there is actually details in the sky, but I get your point"

They are both my rather limited attempts at shooting very different images on the edge of exposure with very different results and visual concepts in mind.

I don't mind that you don't like the images.
I still think they are quite beautifull and good representatives for what you can do the Epic and still make look good on the limits of its exposurerange.

As to soft...
Sure
I conciusiously do that at times.
maybe not "right", but can still look "good" methinks...

This is just exploring visual ideas and possibilities with the Epic.
Ideas that I think would to a large degree crap totally on the image with any other video-cam I have ever used, because of technical limits in the camera.

And methinks I get what i shoot for with the Epic.

THAT is the celebrational mode of the thread!

Not an attempt at teaching or showing off "right" exposures.

I - for one - am really happy with these 2:

I guess you don't like them as much.
That's fine.
because finally - with the Epic - we're back at a main focus on aestethics, and not tecnicalities.

I LOVE THAT!!!!

Thanks for the feedback, though!

ACtually really appreachiated!

G

OK, Gunliek.
Thanks for explaining your creative intents.

I love the range of aesthetic possibilities you have shown us with your experiments. If Scarlet can come close to this it will have been well worth the long wait.

this is one of the wonderful products of the Epic for me as well. Digital cinema has been about "proper" exposure, sharpness, and the like for as long as its been possible, because it really was more limited in capability that we all liked. I remember seeing a demo of new Kodak stock that had blown highlights and commenting that if it had been a digital image, we'd all have been worried about that. With Epic, you can product pretty nice looking blown highlights. Much like we have in film for years.

I went to an Avedon show not long ago and saw a lot of really technically awful shots: motion blur, camera shake, over exposure... but man, weren't the images beautiful. It made me remember that photography is not about sharpness, it's about images, with all their accidents and variation.

Fwiw

This thread, Maybe more than any other thread shows a wide range of image styles and possibilities with the EPIC digital imaging tool.

Also think it also demonstrates a wide range of cinematic styles. Hards light, soft, side front, top, over under, high con, low con.

Gunliek has done us all a great service while we wait for our machines by taking the tine to share all of this testing with all of us.

We are lucky there is a REDuser named Gunliek Groven.

Thanks.

Thanks

Dunno what to say!

But as I am still editing the 2nd piece and am more into just doing stuff I like than technically and "ideally" correct, here's another series I like...

Heh Heh, Ketch has some "ketching" up to do! Love your aesthetic vision Gunleik.

Yeah. More than a few models showing up here in this thread.

Sizzling.

I'm sure ketch has something up his SSD's. Heh heh heh.

OK
I'll come up with some landscapes and flowers and cityscapes, you just wait.
Just have to finnish post on all I shot first!

And I am sure there's no comparison to what Ketch comes up with.
I am just foolin' around.

I don't do Ketch stuff.
Ketch does Ketch stuff.

Look foreward to see him in Italy
