  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st 24 hours with an Epic

Life sometimes gets in the way of art... or is it the other way around? LOL

Anyway, I'm sure we're all looking forward to some motion stuff, when Gunleik gets the chance.

Last night...

Epic-M and R1MX
Side-by side with 35mm masters, hard light, tungsten exposuretest.

I probably won't post a lot from this comparison, other than that I stand by my words:

The Epic is in no way a shrinked R1 MX.

Which I think is good.

And they can be matched if you need to.
But you will def have to shoot on the R1 MXs premises.

It is wayyyy simpler to match R! with R1 MX or even Alexa (prores or SDI) with R1 MX, than to match Epic and R1 MX IMHO

Thanks to Jannicke Mikkelsen for assisting me with that double setup.

Haven't checked back for a few days - been catching up on sleep after a looong deadline...latest grabs are looking good :)

I feel we're getting closer to some moving footage!

OK...

Here goes
It's not been through online yet. Just ballparky RCX stuff.

It's 720 and zipped, so you guys shan't try to stream it from here.

It's the first of 5

And it's called "Caught"

If anyone have the mailaddress to Annie Lennox, please PM me...

The 720 on youtube actually looks quite ok.
I might just ul a 1080 there...

OK, just a quick note...

This thing is going into avid and then conformed into Resolve RAW, as it is part of a workflow test.

The 4 other tests are a greenscreen/tungsten test (exr's in Nuke)
Natural light exteriors
Inside a car + day exteriors
The butter thingy...

They will all be finnished over the next few weeks. And from next week I'll be off the show which is currently my daytime gig, so I'll have more time for the tests.

Cheers!

Can the quality of image on youtube possibly get any better?

I think this is one of the big advantages of 5K that gets overlooked.

Good stuff Gunleik!

He shoots... he scores!!!

Great images... so nice to see them moving after having seen the stills/grabs.

Really nice high light roll off... love seeing the skin details and the micro hairs on forearms... very (very) nice!

Now, looking forward to the rest.

Only comment I have for your onscreen talent is the various fishing nets/lines looked painful at times, so they did a good job too :)

I'm amazed with the character that certain images have. Indeed the handling of under and over exposure is just jaw dropping.

The images just have character, like film! If we compare RED One with first color sciences to this, it's night and day! RED evolved so much.

This with hdr to keep the lamp...

Never noticed how HDRx is also great for keeping better contrast on sets/locations with bright practicals. The contrast in this image looks better than if I was witnessing there myself.

Thanks for all these tests and Gunleik, you're a great photographer and cinematographer, congratulations because the images that I saw in this thread were all exquisite.

It looks to me like a kind of spot for "Fisherman's Friend" at ImPuls Tanz Festival in Vienna this summer!!!

LOL
Thanks San.
I actually appreachiated that comment a lot.

The idea is to describe a "state" with two defined breaks and with two slightly different perspectives, rather than a "story"

I see that it can ve refined a lot.

It's more of a conceptual thing than a full story, even though I hope the breaks gives a story and a context to the concept.

But I do appreachiate that it can be interpreted as "nothingness". Which is either good or bad.

In a Becket/Godot way. It's good.
In a "Caught" wai, it might be bad.

Thanks again for the comment!

Cheers

Beautiful piece. Very emotionally intense. Amazing how well the image quality holds up on YT at 1080p. What did you use to encode it?

Encoded h264 with QT 7.6.1 from 1080 prores 444, everything set at "auto"... :-)
