  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18mm now shipping

Camera was out on rental when it came in, haven't really shot anything with it yet. Going to try and shoot some stuff over the next couple days and really try it out.

To answer Peter's question, I was pretty early on the RPP list. My RPP set shipped with a label that said RPP0000023. They sent out the first batch of the 18mm lenses last week and I was in that batch, Norm probably was too.

Sexy....

I'll go out and do some 18mm framegrabs tomorrow!

Jeff, how do you know which serial # your RPPs are? Is it on the case?

Norm

Each lens has its own SN stamped on it. When I received my RPP set last year, the outside of the shipping box had a small white sticker on it that said RPP0000023 (I don't recall the exact # of zeroes).

Wow it looks huge !
What's the weight ?

I recall Jarred saying that the 18mm is about 1/4pound heavier than the 25mm. So that makes it somewhere between 6 and 6.5 pounds (going on memory).

Still uploading the 4K TIFFs but here's a few samples (JPG screencaps) just to whet your appetites.

I have to say that I'm really impressed so far with this lens and I absolutely love the way it flares. Although I haven't shot any charts yet, the lens seems very sharp edge to edge.

Everything was shot at 4K 2:1, RC36, 90deg shutter, 100ASA, 5600K (except one shot), ND9 filter and mainly between T4-5.6. 4K TIFFs exported using RedAlert's 4K TIFF export.

Note: This wasn't a formal test of any sorts. It's just a few random shots to get a feel for the lens outdoors on a sunny day for an hour here in Vancouver, BC. (By the way, this is NOT my backyard. LOL. It's in a rundown industrial area that I accidentally drove by and found a huge pink teddy bear sitting in a puddle next to a dismantled 1980's speaker. Had to stop and shoot this)

These are some really nice shots, Norm. I especially like the train track and the tree branches.

A couple quick questions.

What is the lavender dot in the teddy bear OTS and the soccer field wide shot? In both shots, you can see it at the sun's epicenter. Is that really part of the lens flare?

There seems to be a hint of IR contamination in a couple shots. Did you have an IR Hot mirror filter in with the ND9?

Thanks so much for sharing this test with us.
