  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18mm now shipping

Hi Peter,

I only brought out my ND9 to keep things light and quick. I did not have my Hot mirror or ND12/HM combo filter in. I don't see much IR pollution though, can you let me know which shots specifically?

The lavender dot is the 'black sun' issue that the sensor had and I'm not sure if this has been fixed yet (I haven't really followed up on this on the forums for a long time but I think there's a way around it as lots of people have shot into the sun with the RED and haven't had this issue. Can anyone update me on this?)

No problem, it was fun to finally go out on my own to shoot something. I haven't done that in a very long time ;) I had to stop the test though when I saw two shady looking guys coming from the distance coming straight towards me...I was in a secluded area and with the nice camera setup, I didn't want to risk it!

I guess I see a hint of IR in the first and last shots ... and I mean a hint. If you look into the whites of both shots, you might see what I mean.

I was completely unaware of the "black sun" issue. I will certainly have to read more about it.

My Red One was just delivered recently, and I am still working out the last few accessory details. Seriously looking forward to taking it for a lap. :auto:

Speaking of cars ... is that your BWM?

Smart of you to cut the test a bit short. That would have sucked losing the 18mm on its maiden voyage ... not to mention the camera ... and your car.

Thanks again for sharing these test shots, Norm.

On second look, I don't think that is IR. There is nothing in the green grass or any of the blacks.

I just took a look at your reel (on your web site). You have shot some truly beautiful stuff, Norm.

Wow, strong flares. Such a clean image though. Can't wait to see the 4k grabs, and motion with the camera moving.

Thank you for taking the time to post all of this. Once it is up I can mirror it if you'd like/need.

Is anyone getting the metric version of the 18mm yet? Not sure if it's shipping.

Thanks for sharing Norm. Those flares do look a bit weird, though.

+1

Any metric yet?
(I am quite early in line, so I guess no)

+1

waiting for my metric 18mm...

I have to say that I'm really impressed so far with this lens and I absolutely love the way it flares.

Those rainbow flares are positively trippy! Don't think I've ever seen anything quite like them.

It's supposed to be solved on the Mysterium-X.

Is the 18mm 105mm screw-on filter just like the others?

And the 18mm must be bigger, the Innerspace 2 lens RPP case explicitly states that it'll work for all 5 RPPs except the 18mm

If anyone could shoot a test chart or a grid to see the amount of distortion on the 18mm it would be great. If you could side the gird with a comparison from 25mm and the 35mm on the same chart. I know a lot of us would like to see that and would be very grateful :)

I love my RPP's but find the 25mm has a little too much distortion for a PL 25mm lens. Would like to see how the 18mm handles the distortion.

Personally, I really don't like that "eccentric" style: perfect for a few occasions, but not for an daily use lens.

In my opinion flares and bokeh were 2 points I really liked better on the IB/E Schneider lenses in our test. Anyhow bought the RPPs eventually. :)
