  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18-85 T2.9 RED zoom...

Angenieux can sell the Rouge lenses for less because it is much easier to design the lens without worrying about standing proud of a spinning mirror. The optical design is far more straightforward.

I start shooting the girls with this BEAST and I can already see them Loosing control and totally starring at the BIG Front Element!:) :)

Ciao
ehehehehehe..

do you need an assistant Ketch?.. :)

facetmedia,

You are right. Maybe not a 24", but you do gain a lot of space to balance the camera further back and it works well to balance the big zooms. It would be nice to know if the 18" ET plate can balance an Optimo 24-290. Let us know.

Cheers,

Julián

There's a review of the 18-85 compared to the cooke 18-100 over in the lens section:

not to trash the cooke, but the 18-85 looks like quite the piece of art in comparison...

Well to be far and in truth, not to trash any of the other RED lenses either but the 18-85 does put to shame the rest of the family as well, including the 300 in its current version, all absolute great deals, but this new lens design, now finally has me looking seriously at them instead of the MP's especially in the Zoom range, not sure with the Prime as I truly wish RED would come out with a solution for Super Speeds, but till then MP's will be my only solution.

Off course it should not be compared to an old version of any other manufacturer but instead I would compare it more to the newer Zooms from the other manufacturers and still the design will Overpower the rest with such a distinct presence and style.

But as far as Zoom, I see no Angenieux or Cooke or Zeiss, coming in the way of the 18-85, for very many of us as well as other industry Pro's, not at this price range, and even so many could care less about the way a lens looks or fills, as they only care about the images it produces, and desregard the complaining of their DP's, still the 18-85 has made an entrance at glance in the Pro PL lenses market.

ciao

This girl I'm dating's grandma is only 64 and pretty sexy, but I think I'll still with the youngster. :pirate:

Considering the price, functionality, and beauty of the RED lens it looks like Cooke might need a facelift...

The RED Zoom and soon to come RED Primes de-shackles the community from fighting over the little bit of good glass available. So RED has produced Good Glass + with solid mechanics + availability + sweet price. Great segue for 2009

Indeed... I feel like calling all the snobs I know and rubbing this little piece of info in their faces... but I think I'm going to let them find out much much later...

Hi,

It's a professional Cine lens, which is what the 'lens snobs' usually prefer to use. Next week I will use Nikon lenses on a motion control with bellows focusing. Horses for courses.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. Sorry about that. What I meant to say is "asses"... not pros, but plain mean people. I have absolutely nothing against successful people, or people that mostly book high end jobs... that's just great for them and I wish them continued success for sure. Not sure if that's what you meant though, but better try to clarify just in case.
