V2 of the 17-50mm lens isnow in stock. Optically they are identical to the first version, the only difference being that the hood has gone from a big flying saucer to a more "normal" 114mm diameter.

Existing owners can get their hoods upgraded for a $250 fee, you send your lens to Irvine and we will swap it out and send it back to you.

This upgrade will happen through our upgrade program and owners of the 17-50mm will receive an email with instructions

That is one beautiful looking piece of glass Jarred, congrats!!!!!
(I must say I wasn't too crazy about the original V1? version)

Jarred, very nice. Can you comment on any plans for a 50-150mm update?

I need one of these!

Great. I'll send mine for sure. Just wondering if there any chance to look for any other mechanical improvements... Mumble mumble...

Very nice

Optically it is the same albeit the vignetting is slightly reduced at the full 5K sensor... There is no vignetting on 5K wide and below.

Great news - been getting tired of trying to switch out the skinny ring on our MB when changing between the 17-50 and the 50-150; can be tricky in the field...

+1 on the hope to have the upgrade done at Red Europe.

Will a clip on MB work on the new shade? I would assume it would but wanted to confirm.

For reference, here is the 5K vignetting benchmark I did with our RPZ 17-50mm (v1). It is great news if v2 slightly reduce vignetting !

Thanks Remi for doing this... here is the difference between what you shot and the new hood:

Hi there,

We bought a RED PRO ZOOM 17-50mm with our EPIC-M. We are trully satisfied of it, it produce amazing pictures. But I read all over reduser that it only vignette between 17mm & 18.5mm at 5K FF. That's clearly not what I've experienced, so I made a small test to show you what I've got.

Test conditions

I took shots of a white paper at 17mm, ~20mm, 25mm, ~30mm, ~35mm & 50mm (some are approximations since there're not written on the lense). Each shot was taken in camera in 5K full frame, 5K 2:1 and 5K 2.4:1. I then applied a gamma curve in Redcine-X :

Aperture ~F/4, ISO 800, Redcolor2 & Redgamma 2. Except for the gamma curve, Redcine-X in full default options.

Here are the results as 15% scaled JPG.

Please share your experience!

This I just shot 5K full frame F4 @ 17mm with the new hood, 15% scale.
