Is there any benefit in using 16 bit over 10 bit when transcoding to DPX while using PDlog 985?

Is it better to transcode to 16 bit PSD instead of 10 bit DPX when using Redlog or RedlogFilm?

Thanks!

That's a complicated question without knowing what you trying to achieve. PSD wouldn't be my first choice for a 16 bit image sequence either.

The old PDLog985 is long deprecated. Please use REDLogFilm.

10bit is often sufficient for a log encoding, but 16bit does give more precision.

Hey, Phil! Thanks for reply!
I was just thinking about preserving the existing quality. Theoretically.

Do I get 16 bit worth of quality when transcoding to 16 bit files?
Do all 16 bits get "used" or 6 of them get "paded" @RedlogFilm to, say, TIFF or PSD?

For 16bit output files you get 16bit processing so they do contain more precision than a 10bit output.
