  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

15mm adaptator

19mm rods are standard for all modern ARRI gear. At least it's not goofy Panavision 5/8" rods :)

Looks like the handles in those photos are mounted to the 19mm rods. If you used the 15mm base, the handles won't fit. Or am I missing something?

Go with the Red Arri 15mm base and a set of handgrips from Cavision

They're dual allowing you to 19mm and 15mm mount as long as the spacing is correct. We found for our Arri BP-6 the alignment was slightly out which was fixed by boring out the 19mm wholes slightly. Also used them with a RR M2 kit which is 15mm.

You will lose the ability to adjust port/starboard that you have with the Red but you can still swivel forward/aft.

Sorry to hear the grips won't fit a 15mm rod setup. Hopefully the Supergrip will. I think alot of users will want a 15mm rods setup to keep the kit compact and allow smaller, lighter accessories...therefore fitting on a smaller fluid head and lighter sticks as well.

The weight really isn't that different between 15mm studio and 19mm. 15mm LW is only marginally lighter than both of those. I would make your decision more about what accessories you have available to you, whats on the used market, and whats at your local rental house. In my case that means 15mm studio or LW but definitely not 19mm.

which Rental Houses are you using? I've never had issues w/ 19mm.

LA is very much a 15mm@100mm town. While I prefer 19mm as the newer standard, there just aren't enough 19mm houses here to justify it.

Some houses are 15mm centered and some are 15mm offset - it depends. Long story short, call your favorite rental house and check what standard they use before you buy.

I wonder if the RED Arri 15mm offset plate could be re-drilled for center spacing as well...
