  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

13th responses here...

I'd be really surprised if Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Panavision, Arri, Dalsa, and everyone else did not pee their pants this morning in fear.... This is absolutely amazing.

If I was Canon I'd be figuring out 24fps and audio for the 5d II. The door to be the camera that replaces 35mm adapters is WIDE OPEN if they can do that. 2/3", 15-25mm at F2.8 isn't going to be flexible enough for a lot of people... it's really a S35mm Scarlet system vs. the 5D II... Canon has some room to operate there. But they'd have to pull their head's out of their butts.

- The DSLR killer is that big 256mp camera (did I get the pixel count right?)

261mp according to the table...

- About an affordable Scarlet...looks like they left it.
Notice the price is in ascending order - though no price is given, i would imagine the fixed lens scarlet will be cheaper than the 2.5k one.

I doubt that. I suspect that it will be cheaper than the mount-based brain PLUS the lens...

Realistically, a killer lens like RED promised is going to cost more than the price of the attachment point of a lens mount...

I'd say 3K~ish... RED's initial plan was to offer a out of the box cam which is ready to shoot ar 3k for 3k which hopefully is still the case.

Could be wrong...but I thought it was 2k for 2k.
And then they surprised us by saing 3k for 2k. (Just stays in the mind if its the same so it got switched around.)

So seeing the prices are in ascending order...
...I wouldnt be surprised to see the fixed lens at 2k, right under the 2.5k.
After all, you can buy a new lens mount for the fixed lens so you can have interchangeable lenses. (The body is the same as the others...and I suppose for an extra $500 it may give you that, who knows.)

Peace

My guess is closer to $3500 now, but the options to upgrade are endless...

Another question for RED: will you be putting out zooms for the mini-RED mount, or just primes?

YES that might explain why the 5dMK II prices are being revised at the moment could be a major upgrade for the MK II. I'd guess once they allow full manual controls in video mode they still gat some game to play here. But red lol they're like .... KILLING THEM ALL !

The price for that camera isn't listed as of yet so how can you say that? I'm guessing it still comes in at around $3,000

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like that won't be a "camera," but a "brain." The original vision was supposed to work right out of the box.

I understand that the modularity that replaced that vision is huge, and taking the second and third step will be much more affordabe this way. However, the first one will probably cost way more. Hope to be wrong, though.

2k for 2k - then I believe it was 3k for 2k.
So with the list having prices in ascending order, it would well fit to have this fixed lens at 2k, under the 2.5k one. (and you can upgrade lens mount if you need interchangeable later.) ;)

Wow! That was a whole lot of info! RED made history today, that's for sure. I'm all in for a Scarlet brain plus some extras. Money will tell how many accessories I can afford.

There's only one thing I'm worried about: workflow.

I'll probably start with a 2/3" Scarlet brain plus EVF/LCD and a couple of extras more. I'm not worried about 3K workflow as I'm quite sure my computer will handle it. The announcement of the CS4 plugin is very important for me too.

I'll probably stick with that configuration for a year or so, but I really love 35mm DOF, so as soon as I've got the money, I'll buy either the 5Ks35mm or the 6KFF35mm brain and that's when I start worrying about workflow problems. It will depend on how fast computers will be in two years from now the fact that you can handle 6K with a simple "faster than average" computer or if you'll need a supercomputer for the job. If I'm worrying about that, I can't imagine what kind of computer will be needed to move 10 tracks of 9K footage.

I want to thank all the RED team for their great efforts to make our dreams come true. Thanks a lot.

lets hope its around those price range. but i'd guess attaching a glass on that lil monster would cost more in terms of materials wouldn't it ?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a pre-packaged "starter kit" that included a basic camera and minimally needed accessories, ready-to-go...

I think the idea of a fixed lens is that it is integrated into the brain, so no, it would NOT accept a lens mount of any kind...

Here, here. I am absolutely STUNNED by what's been shown tonight. Amazed and delighted. But I want 13+ stops, PL mount and at least 4K res , and I only want S35. Jim, I know the sheer HIGH of this must be amazing for you , but I also know that you listen. So I just thought I'd put this out there.

Although I am thoroughly blown away by these announcements I'd like to temper my excitement with what I see is missing.

Exactly what Chris says...I want the extra latitude - but PL mount.

Not only is this missing, I bet you it becomes the biggest request RED will get in the wake of these announcements.

Except that the S35 system will be way more expensive than the Canon.

canon doesn't have a prayer. REDCODE RAW is the reason.

Exactly. And it would be a bad business model. Why would anyone purchase the 2.5k brain if you could have one with an interchangeable lens and fly-by-redwire system that's upgradeable (presumably for a similar price)? You'd be getting a lot of stuff practically for free. No point in getting the brain only version.

That, and to get the Monstro sensor in the RED ONE in about a year from now.

I would have loved a 2/3 with a canon mount rather then the c-mount / b4 mount
Though the s35 5k one for 7000 with canon mount.. and if it can do windowed 120fps
THat would be the sweet spot!
