  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Skip did you read about what Jim said about how they are working with Adobe. It looks like Adobe is close to being called Red Adobe. You never know, there was once a company called Macromedia and Adobe bought them out, in a couple years, Adobe may be called Red Post.

These upgrades are not only a call to other manufactures to get in the game or go home but to computer manufactures as well. Apple get in the game!

Way to go Jim and co.

you just beat every camera known in every price range.....

major ripples to follow

I sooo called this in the DSMC thread!!

I'm glad I have a similar vision to Red! ;) Sorry Peter... and others who thought I was wrong.

Can someone from RED give us a ballpark idea of how much a working setup would cost?

For this estimate, I don't care about grips, frame sizes, recording time, whatever -- just the minimal camera that can record some amount of footage to some sort of media mounted on the camera, powered by a battery mounted on the camera (handle or otherwise), with audio from an external mic, handheld or on a tripod, monitoring on some sort of LCD, EVF, or other device mounted to the camera?

Assuming we start with nothing (except the hands or tripod as applicable) -- are we in the $3000 range, $4500 range, ...?

I'm assuming this will be one of the 2/3" "brains"...

BTW, this modular design is awesome! To consider this a desirable setup is a no-brainer...

The fact that RED has proposed almost the exact spec of Scarlet that I, and others asked for on a much earlier thread just goes to show what a fantastic company this is. They actually listen to customer requirements...

Great job and quite frankly bloody amazing line up of products.

The Scarlet and Epic FF35 "digital VistaVision" are what blew my mind! Seriously I love the VistaVision format! (yeah I know it's just full frame 35mm but I came from a stills background)

Let alone those lovely 28k large format jobs - I already know what to shoot with those...

Amazing day well worth the wait.

Congratulations

The FF35 w/o PL mount is the big crier from what I've read, but I'm sure something will materialize; or a glass-shift will be realized. A trillion options....

As far as people feel down about buying a RED ONE - You're nuts! The new news is really new news. These great toys can't be had for several months, but the R1 is now as never before available and does the job better than anything RIGHT NOW!!! It also gives you a direct path to the Epic of your choice (?). Stop your whining and produce something, or start driving a bus! ;>) (No harm intended)....

post software workflow-ease is the single biggest determining factor in all of this. i am sure RED has thought of this, and i would love to hear Jim's ideas on this subject. outpacing post software by too much would not be good. i remain hopeful that more than just adobe will be on-board with native RED worflow....this is the key to the kingdom.

My thoughts precisely. But it isn't just software. Something must also happen in the hardware part of the equation. Just imagine editing a documentary, for instance, in 6K and all the storage and throughput stresses it would entail...

Well, I just gotta say, I love you, RED. What a fantastic job you're doing here. Time to save up some money for the S35 Scarlet. The way you're pushing the limits here is simply brilliant.

Could not agree more with you. I actually started a thread about this exact topic:

This is truly profound and a dream come true. Wow!

The Future is Here

The Future is Here

As a lot of other smart people here have said though, what is important is what is available today.
I have been waiting for a still lense mount for months. Two weeks ago I decided to go with the Red Nikon/Underdahlized mount and guess what, I am holding it in my hands right now. I can use it right now. Those new Nikons are going to be so sweet!

I commend Jim for lighting the fire under a lot of companies. :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: I welcome them to step up to the plate and take a swing. I really want them too, competition is what keeps the economy in shape. This sector of the economy has gotten way to bloated.

Now it is time for me to go back to work!

See ya all.................................................in the future:sorcerer:

New guy here. I've been following the forums daily since the original Scarlet relaunch announcement, and I was truly blown away by everything that was being announced over the last few hours.

As I'm a real beginner and just a hobbyist at any rate, I was certainly looking forward to an entry-level system for $3,000. Now my impression is that nothing of the like is currently on the table any more.

It would be really nice to know where the rock-bottom entry point would be, price-wise. That is, the fixed-lense Scarlet brain with the minimum accessories that would enable basic functionality.

I know that the sheer volume and the technology implied in these announcements is mind-boggling, and this certainly looks like a defining moment for cinematography. Yet the original vision of the Scarlet, i.e. a $3,000 (semi)pro camera that works out of the box is pretty much MIA right now.

I hope that particular vision is not completely gone, though.

As a rabid Apple fan, I must say that Red uses a radically different approach to communicating with its community than Apple does... and yet I love it. It's been a great ride so far, just following the breadcrumbs. But I'm looking forward to the day when I'll also be a proud owner of some actual Red metal myself.

Alright Skip, another one to add to my subscribed list.

OK, now its back to work :)

Congratulation Jim and RED team. This is realy revolutionary! It blows my mind! What a line of great cameras! My vote goes for
Scarlet FF35 but all other combinations are great as well. The 28K
is simply unbelivable! On what we are going to see that image?
Thaks Jim and RED team!

The fun does indeed begin. This reminds me of that morning at NAB a couple of years ago, the crowd of familiar and not so familiar and would become familiar faces.

Graeme

Hope to see you at NAB2009 and hope to become a familiar face.

I am taking my time reading and enjoying...

Thanks a lot to the RED team...
