  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

$1299 Seiki UHDTV 50" SE50UY04 - Bought it today

UPDATE 3: What's better than UltraHD? Same UltraHD picture, lower price! Tigerdirect.com is now unbelievably offering this set with online coupon code for $1199.99 if you search around online... enjoy!

Wow , wish I could see the TV, I would buy this in a heartbeat, just waiting on more info.

Something tells me this is going to be a big letdown for 4K early adopters... I've been itching to pull the trigger, but now I think I'll wait for the SONY.

Other then the very and extremely RARE cases (RED Been one of them) usually you do get what you pay for, so please understand my BIG skepticism about this super ridiculously cheap so called 4k TV's.... ;)

My 1080p 55" Samsung 9000 TV was 7k when I bought it now is 4k, and this is a extremely high quality 1080 3D TV and very happy with it, no way I'll be buying one of this cheap 4k TV's any time soon... Unless I have extra space in the Bathroom for one of them... ;)

Negative. All Jarred was saying is that your can pump out 4K up to 30fps via a single HDMI 1.4 as that's what the standard supports. As it stands in it's current form REDRAY supports up to 60fps at 4K and in 3D via 4 HDMI 1.4 connections.

Sorry Phil, I thought he meant a single current cable, he must mean single hdmi 2 cable. Display port 8k I would like.

Buon Giorno Ketch, If you have time today, Please post a JPEG still frame here at 3840x2160 and also same photo at 1920x1080 of any of your most detailed material and I will snap a photo closeup so you can compare the two. There is nothing amazing here, simply a basic 4K panel for a good price- all the money is in the panel, not the casing or line doubling or speakers, etc. Quote from their website: "A great TV, without the nonsense" Ciao, John

John, I have tested several 4K panels, the lowest in the $5k range and it was okay but nothing to compare to the $25k Sony, and the $80k one is mostly so expensive do to its massive size, so I am not bringing in to context here, but now going to such extreme lows in the $1.5k is something that leaves me very skeptical about it, yet I am not saying that it is not good since I have not tested one.

I want 4K TV screens cheap as this can only means more possible clients to view my material at home in their intended full glory instead of Blue Ray 1080p, but till I have a confirmed test of this so cheap TV's I wan't believe that they really are any good.

Nice to see but in a few months, it will be worthless when the new 4K @ 60HZ HDMI is out. Then every major manufacturer will be jumping on the 4K TV bandwagon with 50-65-inch TVs for the holidays or next year.

I think you should reconsider your statement of "worth", and I think such statements add nothing BUT negativity... It will be worth exactly what you paid for it as a TOOL, priceless in some hands as early adopters such as our fellow employees and artists... After using the set for a couple days, it should be a good tool in the right hands for the next foreseeable decade for delivering/viewing 4K at 24p...

John, what did you guys use to playback the 4K content?

Update 5: 3D content is playing on the display as 1920 x 2205 at 24p , currently using in-house LG BluRay 3D player. You can clearly see the horizontal edges of the content with extra room on both sides. Warner Bros. needs to re-release the Hobbit on a 48fps HFR Blu Ray disc ASAP ...

I'm not sure we'll even see HDMI 2 being implemented this year. Most predictions I've read say it will be 2014 before it's ready. Some even say 2015.

Hi Ketch,

Some of us are here posting in our free time to halp and advise others of great options, what works barely, what is great, and what simply doesn't work. You are a great contributor of time for others here...

This is so far a useable panel for 24p for the price ($1199.99 on sale vs $5000 for upcoming Sony 55").

Technology at this price may usher in a huge demand for 4K content, so while it's not a Dolby Reference monitor,
you can use it NOW and get work done.

If you have time today, post the jpegs so I may take a couple of shots and you can compare the level of detail
later tonight.

Grazie,
John
