  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1270P raw

No you haven't missed a thing... The format page has been updated. No 1080p/720p HD RGB modes listed anymore.

did i miss ??

i see 1270 RAW listed under format options

http://www.red.com/cameras/format_options

1270p = 2760×1270 pixels. progressive scan

It looks to be RAW PORT only, most likely the largest cropped image that can overcrank to 120.

Interesting to note that there is no way to overcrank now and use the whole 35mm sensor unless you go RAW PORT...according to the list...am I correct?

Maybe the list now only contains implemented features, in preparation for the first 50.

I imagine that 2k scaled RAW is likely to be still in development going by the chart. ;)

And BTW I don't believe that 2760×1270 pixels is 16:9

16:9 is a ratio of 1.778 (3dp)
This is 2.173 (3dp)...which is more 19(ish):9

I'm going to go typo because 4520/2 is 2260. (IBloom stops realizes his forum habit is getting out of control... switchs momentarily to Dashboard to double check his math... then presses submit)

I'm assumming this tech spec is for the initial release feature set and the 1080p/720p will be enabled in the near future!
Bit of a bummer not having preview at 1270p, again hoping this will be "future feature enabled"
the use of our red will be 50% broadcast (documentarty and 50% feature theatre release). I guess 2k windowed and downconvert to 1080p/720p?? for all broadcast.

Interesting... good find! Hope this doesn't get the whole cine / efp / eng debate all overheated again. Hopefully a fantastic solution will be found for all in the end and that this will be part of it. I think I'm going to duck out of the forums for a while though ;) You guys who are buying the camera can debate the relative merits of all of this..

Bruce, I hope that is not true.:angry03: :innocent:

You have been a great contributor on many levels, you have incredible post/graphics skills that I hope to employ on a freelance basis AND if you will remember I made you a great offer in a pm and I still stand behind it for the right project. I spent 3 1/2 years flat on my back not able to do anything -- Do not doubt my very strong desire to do great work with great people like yourself and others here... I have been fortunate as of late, my resources are growing and I want to spread the good karma.

Cheers -- Andrew

ps- your RED # should not be "I wish"... Put mine in there, there will be many opportunities that I am working now and I am not a graphics god -- we can work it out.

Shouldn't 2K's frame rate be max 60? Because it says 120fps max, and then goes on to say that you can do max 60 in recode, and can't use RAW... So how could you go up to 120fps in that mode?

Thanks Andrew. I think a lot of Reduser folks will be working together. There's a lot of talent here. I can't wait until 6 months' time, when we're chatting about all of the cool work everyone's making. That'll really be the time to be thankful. Good night and cheers!

Bruce

ExpressCard gone ?

ExpressCard gone ?

Looks like there was a "Pull!".

The more we look at ExpressCard's performance and standalone format (not SATA), along with it's pricing... the less we like it. It is on the chopping block waiting for me to say "Pull!".

Yeah… I just found that out myself, any Red People could comment on this slight anomaly?:detective2:

RAW PORT specifications

RAW PORT specifications

Good catch. 1270p is 2260 x 1270 pixels, progressive scan.

2K RAW can be pulled from the S16mm central area of the sensor at up to 120fps, but 2K REDCODE RAW operates up to 60fps.

With S16mm optics, the RAW PORT works at 2K+, rather than 2K, you would create previews from your DDR. Of course you still have EVF/LCD output.

Usual disclaimer, specifications subject to change... etc

Is the 2k raw scaled feature in the making or has it been dropped?

Scooore!.... I guess.

I'm confused. Why would you have to use S16mm lenses? Why wouldn't it work with larger lenses?

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the max for redcode would be 100fps, not 60fps. Wasn't that going to be part of a dual boot option?

Stuart, does this mean that overcranking from the full sensor area (35mm) is possible without having to use the RAW PORT? From looking at the chart, that doesn't seem to be the case...

Optical coverage

Optical coverage

Why would you have to use S16mm lenses? Why wouldn't it work with larger lenses?

It would, but on a 35mm lens you would be using the central portion of that lens, which is equivalent to S16mm optical coverage of the sensor.

Thanks Stuart. That's what I thought. So 2k+ Raw would work with 35mm optics as well (granted with the characteristics of cropped 35mm), right?

And, according to the new format specs, the highest possible frame rate of any Redcode format would be 60fps (2k)?
