  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

120fps looks okay :)

It wasn't letting me record (kept getting error message) but I found if you switch to 1k HD and then back to 1k WS it will work :) A buggy update but still awesome.....THANKS RED TEAM :)

120 FPS Test

120 FPS Test

Here's my test, I'm showing the before and after of noise reduction and sharpening. 120FPS 1k WS It's not bad for internet vids.

I was so sceptical about 1K super speed... I'm feeling really smashed down right now. It is not just "good" it is simply amazing. Real production feature, not just funky extra. For web videos and many other stuff - it is a real gold mine.
Amazing job, JIM.

AND NOW TELL ME THAT 5K24 FPS WS IS NOT POSSIBLE ON SCARLET...

It's so useless... I can't find out the goal of the 1K resolution, maximum crop, not good at all, but yes, for advertising projects on web can be a nice feature, not for a camera cinema and cinema projects... so not 4 me and large part of Us..
5K at 24fps? yes, now with an epic and next year with dragon:)

Hm... That's kinda funny

5k @ 24fps was never an advertices xpec on the Scarlet, if memory serves me slightly not too bad.
1k @ 120 was

Epic is the cam you're asking about, methinks...

That is what I'm saying, dear Gunleik:)
I've bought the Scarlet certainly not for the 120 at 1K but for the whole benefit of the redraw and 4k etc. and, I'll repeat, I can't think as usable the 1K crop factor and resolution (for me, of course, and for everyone who wants the Scarlet to be a camera for making films for cinema)
For the 5k at 24 I still think it can be with an upgrade to Dragon, maybe not (I hope in other thinks, but this feature can be among the new things the sensor will bring)

4k is heaps!
I shot 4k 2 days ago... didnt check the settings.. didnt even notice or care. :) Red is so clean if shot well. :)
no my man, to me difference between 4K and 5K is like SD and HD, 5K has so much more details it's incredible;
yeah, you don't notice when you shoot, but when you look at R3Ds - you will :)

SRY. No offense meant. Probably me just misinterpreting through our common English.

Peace!

I still don't get people asking for the Epic to be crammed inside their Scarlets for free.
It's just speculation really..someone mentioned a wish of getting a 5K 2.39:1 @ 24 mode on scarlet..which if red's wizards could figure out would obviously be fantastic but seems unlikely. A 5K WS @ 24 is a far cry from the Epic framerates and compression at 5K

Played with the 1K@89/ 1K HD @ 120 last night, looks like a good thing for web videos, definitely amazing to have this option now.
What I like even more is the menu system for mapping buttons..way more intuitive!

https://vimeo.com/41890676 120FPS @ 180deg shutter test minutes after installing the FW and remapping my sidehandle buttons
pass: redtest

5k at 24p isn't what makes Epic so amazing, but it is what's holding back Scarlet from being a 5k b-cam. Plus, I think the notion is that, if it can do 1k at 120 it should be able to do 1k*5=5k at 120/5=24fps (if you conveniently ignore the real math behind it)... As for 5k WS, it's NOT less pixels to read off the sensor and write to the redmag than 4k, unless you're comparing fillrate per second (not per frame) at 4k/30fps vs 5kWS/24.

Updated: fixed... a little.
5k WS = 5120x2133(2.4:1) x 24fps = 262m/s... 4k = 4096x2160 x 30 = 265m/s.

You have your math quite wildly messed up...

I understand; that'd be AWESOME. It would never happen, and it takes a special kind of self-entitlement to expect this to just happen. But who doesn't want something for nothing?
