  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have tried to get to 120 fps on all of the 2k settings with a red drive
and the dial always stops at 60 fps and that is what displayed on the lcd.

am I missing something? camera reports correct remaing time on drive so it knows a i have a raid attached.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Are you sure that you're in 2k? 60fps is max speed for 3k and 30fps for 4k

Try setting your Project frame rate to 24 Fps (or whatever is your base fps rate), then go to the Varispeed Menu and set there the Framerate to 120 fps.
Sorry I can't have access to the camera right now, so I can't specify exactly step by step. Just pointing the fact that if you have two "Frame Rate" to set: Project and Varispeed.

Hope this helps...

I'm definitely on RC28, but cannot see the 120fps option ... 59.94fps is the highest selectable (at 2K 2:1 with RED-DRIVE).

Build 15 (2.1.7) documentation does suggest it's possible ! but I've never been able to select it ... :umm: unclear what I'm doing wrong

You are definitely selecting a Project Frame Rate. You need to be selecting a Varispeed instead. Push the far left button (SENSOR) on the camera back, and then select VARISPEED menu label. Check the VARISPEED menu key and dial in your desired FRAMERATE. For 2K it should max out somewhere between 100 and 120 fps depending on 2:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio and the media type used.

Thanks Stuart, I've used less words...
But this is the concept that i'm trying to explain!

Elcurado = grazie ;-)
Stuart = thank you ;-)

This one definitely had me stumped for a while. Varispeed sounds like frame rate ramping - so it's not intuitive. Personally, I'd break out another menu called "slow motion" with preset frame rates so you could quickly get to the most common frame rates. At least everyone would understand that instantly. 99.5% of the time you're going for slow motion as opposed to fast motion.

thanks all!!!

I too thought varispeed was ramping,due to recent discussions on it, so I did not look further into it.

thanks again.

Varispeed

Varispeed

Or "speed effect"?...

The Vari(able) Speed menu includes user adjustable single speeds and Ramping as a sub feature - so VARISPEED it will remain.:red_bandana:

what are the recording times like at 120fps? i've tried 150fps on the si-2k and it's rubbish...2 second max recording time

Presumably the recording times just go down in multiples as the frame rate increases, so 120fps will give 1/4 the record time of 30fps. There isn't a maximum size of "burst" at high speeds is there?

I just found this, and I have tried to do this in the camera for a while with the CF cards only. Can I get 120fps on 2K on a 8GB card?

You can get to 113fps on redcode 28 using a current 8Gb RED certified CF card. (close enough?)
