  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

12 GB extreme - Better R3D playback?

I don't know, but this product has been delayed a bit and has not been released yet, and I was told that currently the
thunderbolt connection (if used) needs to be connected to a motherboard that has native thunderbolt, and will not
work with an add-on thunderbolt card.

R3D playback will also hinge on drive speed, so you have to have very fast CPUs, very fast GPUs, lots of RAM for both, and fast i/o for your drives.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if this new Blackmagic ULTRA STUDIO Extreme 12G card will mean better playback in Resolve for R3D's?

Michael, in terms of speed I would prefer to invest in a faster GPU or CPU than an I/O video device. In addition, since Thunderbolt 3 is hitting the market by end of the year, supporting external GPU through extension boxes, I would hold to invest in any related equipment at the moment.
