  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1080P 4:4:4 via Build 16 playback

And confirmed to work with the RED-ONE 1080p 4:2:2 output (by one of our Alpha testers)

The eCinema monitors should also work with true progressive (P) too according to the manufacturer.

So thats 1080 P native monitor choices from JVC, Sony, eCinema and Cine-Tal at minimum (also RGB dual link for the latter)

Also the Panasonic monitors work with 1080 P too, but they are not 1080p native displays.

TV Logic monitors should be okay as well I would think. I can test it for you guys once the beta is released.

Please do Steve.

I have the LVM-241W ( Waveform / Vector function ) here in my Studio.
I have JVC 24" HDSDI LCD monitor as well.

I like to test 1080P 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 Dual link from RED as well.

Mike, thtas a bummer.
Did you try 25p or 29.98?
Just checking it is build 16?

I didn't, but I can tell you that the SR software - at least on the 5000 - does not permit selection of Progressive for anything other than 720.

Red software builds have nothing to do with this issue. I tested it by sending the machine 23.98p and 24p bars from both a test generator and an Aja Kona 3 card. The SR would not lock to either of them, regardless of sync (input video would be the likely setting for sync). It locks up just fine to the Psf versions.

And I don't consider this a "bummer," I consider it a design decision. I also consider Red's decision not to support what's already out there a design decision.

I've been able to capture 720P at 59.94 from my Red. It can actually look pretty good. But keep in mind, it's a preview mode. There are some compromises. One thing I've run into is that white highlights tend to posterize, and I believe this is due to the 12 bit to 8 or 10 bit truncation. This is also a quick, rough debayer process. Also, you lose timecode relevance. But if you had a project that needed quick turnaround, this is one way to go.

But it still got the 4K FOV + PL Lens kind of '' attractive look " than HDTV 2/3camera look 720P right.

I aware our no.1 cheap selling A/V magazine to tell all CHINESE readers to use these " Preview " outputs onto their PC or Mac as final ' RED Image or kind of RED Stand of Quality in juts 720P !!!

If this is a final quality WHT we need 4K RED one camera though ?

I even request RED to continue to develop the Uncompressed RAW port to get Uncompressed 4K DPX files for us to walk away just FCP/ Color and Scratch.
