$100K REWARD...

GPS in Epic that sends out some sort of "pulse" once an hour?

I was thinking back to the GPS feature that was in the original specs... Did that make the final shipping product? Is there some way to "ping" a GPS device? I'm guessing if there was Jim wouldn't need to offer a $100k reward. Anyway, food for thought for future camera iterations. Stolen cameras would be a thing of the past if thieves knew they could be located.

Very well done. No one else in this industry would do this--major kudos.

Yes. This was discussed extensively and Lots seem to be down with the idea. It could obviously wait if the camera was rolling, so on, so forth. If I were a rental I'd "demand it". As Todd points out this might be in mass release Epics, but probably wasn't in Mark's #006.

It's inspiring to watch you use your powers for good Jim. Red = badass.

I think it would be a good option to have some sort of low-jack option for the epic. I would pay extra for a feature like that. There's something that would be satisfying looking on a "Find my Epic" site, and seeing exactly where they are located.

That feature is available on many other cheaper products, iPhones, iPads, Cars. It would be awesome if we could have an extra layer of protection built into Epic.

Im strapping on my dual Hatori Hanzo swords, packing my Burton board and heading to the alps to get me some justice. Does burying the perps alive in an avalanche count as prosecuted? (judge jury and executioner counts right?) Ill be sure to use Mark's EPIC that I recapture and shoot their demise at 5K - 120FPS for posterity, and the 2011 RED EPIC Reel, of course.

Seriously, huge gesture.

Incredible. what camera company or any company for that matter is so awesome to throw down 100k for one of its customers. Can u even call this customer service? its so far beyond that! unbelievable. So much respect for Red right now. I just pray they havent dumped the gear into a lake.

I'm not so worried about a competitor getting hold of this camera. If they did, I'm quite sure they would call us and return it... right after they said "we can't believe you actually did this!".

I'm more concerned with catching the group that did this to Mark and his family. Plus, this camera matters to us. It has value being in service. It has no value being underground. It will never get an update, any service or see the light of day without someone noticing. It will ALWAYS be looked for so there is no value in it except if we (or Mark) gets it back. It was the absolute wrong camera to steal. If you have it, all you have is a camera that can land you in jail. And we will push hard for that.

Jim

Haha, I'm sure they wouldn't be able to resist turning it on and playing with it first.

Obviously this isn't just a camera we know that. I, not that it means anything, support Jim's decision to offer a bounty on the heads of the ne'er-do-wells who committed the crime. Hopefully this gesture will turn the tables.

i absolutely love that part of this whole fiasco. Out of every camera in the world to steal. u took Epic 00006. The entire film industry is now looking for it in a matter of 12 hours. That camera is so hot, they are probably just staring at it sitting on their coffee table wondering why oh why did they have to pull that job. There is now a $100,000 price on their heads. But knowing now what will happen to them if the camera is found makes me think they might just dump it. :undecided:

Jim,

as possible as this could have been a PRE-MEDITATED Theft, for exact purpose of stilling the Epic-M #6,
I believe it was just a PRE-MEDITATED Theft against the occupants of that particular Chalet, and the TOURIST
were the victims for what Cash, valuables and or electronics they might have had in their possession.

Unfortunately this happens all the time, and Authorities keep this quite as not to jeopardize the Tourism, and or the owners of
the Chalet and resorts todo their best to keep things quite so to be able too rent out their facilities and not scare any further
business away.

They might know what they have or not, but it is easy to assume that even the most ignorant can read a name on the
camera and research it on the net, and by now they know, and will be most then likely tossing that camera body away,
lets just hope they tossed some place were some one might find it, instead of tossing it in a Lake some were.

Is there a bounty for 4K mug shots when these guys get busted?

I nominate this guy for the recovery:

That is exactly what I thought of as soon I heard this story. Hopefully the people who took it get what's coming to them.

I can see how this thread could get full of speculation.

I think it is great that you offered the reward Jim, that is how decent people are supposed to behave and I hope some can take you example.

Let's just hope the camera ends up back in the hands of the rightful owner. If I found it I would hand it back for ZERO, as would anyone who frequents this forum.

David

Tremendous standup gesture Jim. Here's hoping there's no honor among thieves and greed is a motivator. For arrest, prosecution, and conviction all information MUST be reported properly and discretely. I hope it works.
