  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10 Scarlet Questions from Joseph Hutson

Not open for further replies.
A couple quick questions:

Will the (optional) titanium mount be available on the Epic S35 as well?

Will the Pro Redmote be available when the first Epics and/or Scarlets hit the street, or is that an item that will come significantly later?

Is the "Bomb" EVF still to be expected around the last day of spring / first day of summer?*

*Due to the first EVF discontinuation, this question I know is important to a number of people. :yesnod:

Thanks.

Whats the weight distribution on the fixed? Front heavy back heavy?
Just thinking of options for flying it. Either is good just would be nice to know.

Amazing

Amazing

Thanks Jarred for all this info. Though Im still working and shooting, its all rented or borrowed. I'm eagerly waiting for a Scarlet s35 and fixed for more freedom on my proyects. Patience of heart its a good virtue. Footage next week should an awesome treat. Keep the great and hard work :) history making right here.

jared for us Latino will make a red day?

me gustaria saber si la scarlet podra grabar bien en baja iluminacion?

Jonathan, there is a great market for RED in latinoamerica me being from Venezuela (Where I know are several RED production companies) and studying Argentina (Where there is actually a bigger market, knowing a lot of P.C. with reds including y university). With RED announcement of a re-distributor on ASIA, we might as well positively wait for a not so long future (2011?) of re-distributors on south america. Red day, then could be an option.

Your questions about low light capabilities have been answered as speculation in other threads, It´s hard to compare something that do not completely exist yet, thought the new MisteriumX shots and Epic´s test we have seen are amazing at low light with little noise at high ASA. Use the search button and also check the other Recon post, there is a lot in there. I encourage you also to check www.scarletuser.com that has a lot of info as well.

Despues, red day seria una opcion.

Wow, great news.

Thanks for the update Jarred and for being so forthcoming with details on the state of development.

Very, very happy with the lens specs. Just what I wanted for Doco work.

Very, very happy to hear about the DR to me this is what sets the new MX chips apart and combined with FLUT and the way that keeps the detail in the highlights helps give the output a much more filmic and non video look.:001_wub:

Also great news on the 120fps working on 64GB CF cards. - Any news on the release of those 64GB cards yet?:emote_popcorn:

Optical Image stabilization would be great but perhaps pushing it too far considering what you have managed to put in that lens already... perhaps back end live stabilization tracking data using a combination of the AF tracking algorythms and internal motion sensors output into camera metadata for immediate automatic stabilization when processing in REDCineX is #21? With a 3K image there is probably a little room for cropping in when stabilizing if the delivery is 2K or 1080p. This would be better in some ways than baked in as you could refine it slightly where needed in post or choose not to use it altogether (no stabilization system is perfect and sometimes they actual cause unwanted effects). If it's not #21 then perhaps you can make it #33?:sifone:

Also, will the mini primes provide any data to the camera?:emote_popcorn:

Oh, and another point ...

A freshly backed Epic called "Jackpot" eh?...

That could imply some kind of major goal has been achieved couldn't it?....:sosp:

SELFISH QUESTION #11: Could I have my Scarlet finished in Silver just as your RED #10? I'd like to name it "High Yo Silver"

Kind of... the side"cosmetic" pieces on Scarlet are removable.. and you can get different finishes. I can't remember if we officially mentioned that before for the 2/3"...... but you can. But please... No pink.
Hopefully these questions were "good". :) :emote_popcorn:

This could have been mentioned before I invested in all the "Hello Kitty" stickers.

Otherwise, excellent news all around. Thanks Jared and Joseph!

Jarred, THANKS for the great update, so excited since Red Day 2010 Vegas, even better specs than expected for the fixed. Hope Jim is well, looking forward to Scarlet, a camera generous with features, a dream system - Thanks RED!

The beauty of a true modular system.....

Whiskey indeed!

Graeme

We had already in May whiskey day in Vienna organized by Ardbeg Committee

and soon after I left in south of Tuscany to get the newest taste of

Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Gorgeous (mostly rainy) days with wine and Pecorino di Pienza Pienza sheeps milk cheese.

And Scarlet is of course modular design and after all I'm done.

My MX RED1 is already "FedExed" to me.

Painting your camera Pink will void your warranty. Someone needs to remind me to put that in the terms and conditions. :001_tt1:

Wait. You know that there have been many campaigns to raise breast cancer awareness where hockey players use pink sticks. They manage to retain their manhood.

Not that I would paint the camera pink unless I was supporting a friend or family member fighiting breast cancer.

and..this is a recent breast cancer awareness spot shot in Toronto.
Worth watching....

pink ain't so bad...

Surely there'll be an exception for camouflage pink?

I'm also curious about image stabilization... I'm just a "prosumer", so I'm not in the same league as the most people here... but I guess Jim wanted to target prosumers as well.

I'm holding off buying a new camcorder, and I keep waiting for the fixed lens Scarlet.

I NEED some sort of image stabilization - be that mechanical in-lens one, or sensor shift, or in post production (based on the movement sensor data included into the red raw file). A prosumer camcorder without any image stabilization is pretty much nonsense these days.

What worries me that nobody from the Red team said anything about this subject.

Does this mean that there will be NO image stabilization? I hope that I am wrong.

6 Will 120fps recording be possible on the CF-Modules or will another recording device be necessary?

120fps is working on the CF-Module with 64GB cards at a reduced REDCODE rate. The highest REDCODE number you can use with the CF cards are still being determined as optimization work is progressing.

Are you currently testing 120 FPS using REDCODE 42 or a data rate less than that? I'm wondering because we know Scarlet will feature higher bandwidth REDCODE recording rates above and beyond REDCODE 42. (i.e., is REDCODE 42 = "reduced" or X < REDCODE 42 = "reduced"?)

I think REDCODE 42 might be near mathematically lossless on the Scarlet (of course this is conjecture on my part) given that there are less than half the number of photosites compared to the RED One.

I've seen this asked and go unanswered many times now.
I make a note of it, as I am curious myself.
