Well, here she is, my baby. It has been a long journey riding the waves of Scarlet fever since very near the inception. I actually got her a couple of weeks ago, but the Side Handle just came in. She just wasn't the same without it, and shooting tethered to the wall only goes so far - though I did get some quality time shooting trees from my porch with an extension cord.
I decided to sell all of my Nikon lenses last minute to go with Leica, and I am very glad that I made that decision. She is pictured here with a VARIO-ELMARIT-R 28-90 F/2.8-4.5 ASPH - this is one hell of a lens, and I got a great deal on it, which was the catalyst for me to jump the Nikon ship. Sure, it is not 2.8 all of the way through the zoom range, but the image quality is jaw dropping - great color, very sharp, very well corrected, nine blade aperture - and that beautiful modern Leica look that can't be beat - very three dimensional image. I also have a 35mm Summicron, which is a really interesting lens with a lot of character, and I am currently building up my R prime collection. I decided to go with the zoom first since the price was right, and they are fairly rare relatively speaking. It was a beautiful day in Wisconsin considering it is winter, so I went on my first real shoot unplugged:
As soon as you start shooting with this camera rays of sunlight begin to envelop you.
I love the compact size of this rig - that is even a 28-90 zoom. That little Manfrotto head was used for my DSLR on the slider - a little underpowered, but I don't have the 100mm bowl attachment for the slider yet. It works, so I may keep this config for lightweight missions.
Videos, and further thoughts to come.
