Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
For those looking at an alternative to the Zoom F8, I noticed that B&H has a "New Arrival", refurbished Rolland R-88 units selling at nearly half their launch price (I guess Zoom is providing some serious pricing pressure! They might even be new units, and only "refurbished" in name only?!)...
I've got my eye on a secondhand Sanken CS-1 that I'm considering buying. Wondering if it would be a wise decision for me, currently have a RODE NTG2 & Sennheiser ME66/K6 (& Oktava MK-012 hypercardiod I can freely borrow whenever from a friend just around the corner) paired with a Sound Devices...
My blog post on this news: http://ironfilm.co.nz/news-leak-zoom-f4-with-six-inputs-and-eight-tracks-is-like-a-new-low-priced-zoom-f8/ (some of it repeated below)
I thought the Zoom F8 when it was announced was a groundbreaking new recorder in what it brought to a new low price point for...
Am about to start shooting a vampire comedy feature film, and am looking forward to when we get distribution (well.... hopefully!!), would they prefer 23.976fps or 24fps?
Yessssssssss! Been eagerly waiting for them to fill in the gap between 16mm and 24mm, as that gap was just too darn big and was rather annoying (even worse if you needed full frame, was a leap from 14mm to 24mm!). Now I just need to save up the US$600ish the lens will cost...
Just got an email from my local major chain of computer stores about this interesting looking device (is going to be going on sale for only NZ$309+gst, or about US$200ish)...
Pretty please! [LIGHTING] after all gets their own prefix, and audio is also a very important area too!
But I had to dig through a dozen plus pages of general listings just to find the audio listings that I might be interested in.
Having an [AUDIO] prefix would massively speed up this process...
I kinda almost half checked to see if it is still April the 1st when I read this! :-P
<<Zaxcom today announced their latest line of digital recording wireless transmitters with a brand new modulation, Zaxcom High Density (ZHD). ZHD modulation allows for up to 10 channels of wireless to be...
Would the Rode Blimp be the best Blimp to go for on a budget? Or is it worth spending a little more? (I'll be using it with a NTG2)

Is the K-TEC better than the RODE Blimp perhaps...

I was surprised to find such a fast f/2.8 zoom lens with such a wide range! And incredibly affordable too.
Having that extra reach out to 105mm vs the usual 28-70mm lens would be quite nice.
I feel paired with Tamron's 17-35mm...
At loooooong last the very long awaited Sony A6300 has been announced (along with 3 sweet sweet lenses, that Sony E mount desperately needs).
These specs in particular are juicy:
new 24MP BSI sensor (yay, BSI!)
11fps
4D focus
4K 30fps video (no pixel binning 14 stops dynamic range, 100MPS)...
You sent me a private message.... I wrote a lengthy response only to find it can't be sent! :-o Because:
Peter sagnia has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
If you are trying to send...
What 4x4 ND filters are recommended? (especially any more affordable ones!) Also interested in graduated ND 4x4 filters, and polariser 4x4 filters.
I know the cheaper ND filters often have issues, but I'm hopeful there are some options out there which can give at least "acceptable" results...
Best news I've read all day! The BMD Video Assist is shipping now. Very keen to see a head to head comparison vs the Atomos Samurai Blade which is also US$495 (am using a Ninja 2 right now on a music video shoot with a Sony F3. It is nice, aside from the low resolution screen and no SDI)...

As I want to get this. But it isn't on the list of approved drives:
http://www.atomos.com/drives/
But Sandisk Ultra II SSDs are listed as recommended for Shogun / Ninja Assassin. I'm assuming they only have older SSDs listed for their older...
Ohhhh..... looks like I could be right and there is a "Sony FS1" (as I've been calling it) coming along! I hope so. A good little B cam younger brother companion to your bigger cameras.

The current price for a new F3 is only US$3,995 now, a huge reduction from its original price:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/848144-REG/Sony_PMW_F3L_RGB_PMW_F3L_Super_35mm_Full_HD.html
I can tell it dropped from US$4,995 sometime in the last 48hrs based on Google's cache...
